Tony Russo principal Protagonist has in the Pentagon Papers case has been in touch about the movie that recently filmed based on the case and to say he's not happy is an undertstatement "I was misportrayed totally in the movie. The turning point in the case (after Dan brought the Papers out to my car so we could photocopy them) was my civil disobedience and going to jail because that brought on the 2nd indictment and the Trial that brought down Nixon. My lawyer, Michael Balaban is the authority on that.
The Trial itself, virtually ignored in the movie was my victory; I had to
oppose Ellsberg as well as Nixon to win that. That Trial victory brought down
Nixon.
The screenwriter said he wrote it from the public record. That is a lie. He
surely did not consult my web site that has been up for three years and is at
the top of the google menu (currently #3) when doing a search on "Pentagon
Papers". That web site is thje most accurate source on the Pentagon Papers.
Santayana said history is always miswritten at first and so has to be
rewritten.
The FX movie is in the miswritten phase, in fact so badly that getting to the
necessary rewritting in the Santayanan sense is greatly hampered.
The miswriting of the Pentagon Papers Affair springs from Ellsberg's covert
psychological warfare waged against me and the fact that Kissinger was
negotiating with the Vietnamese at the very time we were on trial; shortly before that Kissinger was Ellsberg's boss.
How characteristic of American politics that the Pentagon Papers Affair where
truth itself was an issue was the occasion of such disinformation. Grim
irony.Patriotism (in the Vietnamese sense; not in the Bushie sense) dictates a
struggle for the truth. The battle for truth in the historical record is a noble and
necessary effort."

Friday 21st February 2003: Pentagon Papers Update:
Just received an email updating us with a ton of information on Pentagon Papers "I am uncertain that there is anyone by> the name of Shawn Ashmore in the cast of this movie. I was on set performing, and I have no memory of a shawn being listed. However, it may be more appropriate to include James Spader in your cast listing, next to Claire, as James protrayed the principal character. The most recent trailer as well as pictures are available on the FX Networks web site. These previews include scenes from the movie, as opposed to the original trailer which was just containing black and white images. The movie is premiering in the U.S. And via satellite in Canada on March 9, 2003 at 8 pm (20:00), Eastern Standard time on the FX Network. If you visit the FX Networks site (www.fxnetwork.com) you will find a variety of new things regarding the film. There are photos under the "About the Film" section, there is the cast and crew listing as well.
