Thursday 13th March 2003: Phone Booth Update:
Director Joel Schumacher has been talking about the delayed
release of his
sniper flick Phone Booth, due out next month. He says it was
"absolutely
imperative" that 20th Century Fox delayed the release
in the midst of last
year's sniper killings in the U.S. Speaking at a film festival
in Texas he
said: "I would have been shocked if they'd put it out.
It was absolutely
imperative that we pull it. I mean, people were dying. We
wouldn't have
tried to put those commercials on television and there was
no network that
would have taken them. The film now is scheduled for
release on April 4 in
the U.S. and April 11 in the UK.

Writer Larry Cohen had thsi to say about the postponement of the release of Phonebooth."I'd

the pain back to them. A movie is meaningless compared to the reality of what's
going on." Wednesday

July 2002: Phone Booth Update:
Reviews for Phone Booth are coming in now with the release still undecided overat
Fox. These two were very positive. and appeared over at Aint
It Cool News. Here's a little of what was said, for the full articles hit
the links at the end. Check out these nicejuicy stills too! Now let
me preface this review by saying this...I HATE JOEL SCHUMACHER. HATE. In my opinion,
he completely DESTROYED the Batman films and to this day "Batman & Robin"
is my all-time most despised piece of cinematic tiolet paper. My disgust ran so
deep I went so far as to boycott all Schumacher's films since. (Akiva Goldsman....dont
think I've forgotten about YOU...) Well,
after seeeing Phone Booth...my boycott of all things Schumacher has come to an
end. This film is fantastic. I was quite amazed at how such a seemingly basic
plot could keep me riveted and in suspense for a full hour and a half, but it
did. I think this was helped through the interesting way it was shot. The camera
almost never leaves Colin Farrel while he's in th phone booth. Thie is accomplished
by a picture-in-picture type effect where when Farrel is talking to someone on
the phone, for example, the person would be in a little window in another part
of the screen. (Kind of similar to the show "24")

And............
The film
is short, sweet and to the point. Although, one thing that detracted from it was
(and this is for any film geek that knows an actors voice when he hears it) that
you know who the sniper is as soon as you here the voice. Maybe they can doctor
up the voice an make it more unrecognizable. The
ending was typical of Hollywood and has been done to death by films in the past.
But as a whole I strongly recommend catching this flick in the theatre when it
comes out. (More) Updated
: 6/7/01 I personally am very excited about this
one, being a great fan of the 'indie' Schumacher. This one has the feeling of
an independent movie although it's being made by Fox and with a reasonable size
budget. Details on the shoot seem to be a tas sketchy. I've found information
that it was shot both in New York and Los Angeles. The shoot apparentley wrapped
in December of 2000. The release was scheduled for this year, but now Fox have
put it back to the early part of 2002. The cast, well in he lead
role after such actors as Brad Pitt, Will Smith and Jim Carrey were all attached,
is Colin Farrell who re-teams with Schumacher after Tigerland. He's joined by
Forrest Whittaker, Katie Holmes and Ron Eldard. Date
