2004: The Pink Panther Update:
A teaser site for Steve Martin's The Pink Panther can be found
here.
In the adventure-comedy, a world-famous soccer coach has been
murdered and his priceless ring has been stolen - a ring set
with the stunning diamond known as the Pink Panther. The French
government needs a master detective to solve the crime and recover
the gem... but he's not available, so they recruit Inspector
Jacques Clouseau (Martin). A stunning pop star (Beyoncé),
a soccer player, a Chinese assassin - who committed the crime?
And can anyone solve the case? Clouseau and his partner, Ponton
(Reno), must unmask the murderer and keep their boss, Dreyfus
(Kline), from taking credit for the victory, all without bringing
the French legal system to a screeching halt. Expect it to hit
screens on July 22, 2005.

What with word coming in late last week that filming has started
on Steve Martin's 'reimagining' of Peter Seller's classic movie
series The Pink Panther, comes the word that David Beckham has
had to drop out of his role as a footballer in the movie. Scheduling
conflicts are apparently the reason, but I wonder if the recentr
furore over his rumoured affairs are the real reason?

legendary "Pink Panther" diamond ring, which was stolen
from the manager of a French soccer team. The person he needs
is a fool who will divert public attention that in turn will
make him look better when he solves the case himself. He then
turns to Inspector Clouseau (Martin). David Beckham would have
had a cameo but his schedule couldn't be resolved.

Peter Sellers' son says the plan to remake the Pink Panther movie with Steve Martin as Inspector Clouseau is a "terrible idea".
