Divers Premise/Synopsis:
The
book, from Random House, follows the exploits of two
divers who in 1991 discovered a wrecked German U boat
sunk deep but alarmingly close to the New Jersey shoreline.
The two men, John Chatterton and Rich Kohler, dove to
depths approaching 230 feet - the limits of human endurance
- to solve the mystery of how it wound up there. Both
suffered great losses in the course of solving the mystery:
a ruined marriage and the loss of several friends' lives
on the wreck.

Ridley
Scott will direct and produce "Shadow Divers,"
a Fox 2000 adaptation of the Robert Kurson bestseller.
The story depicts two wreck divers who, in 1991,
discovered the hull of a German U-boat in waters
off New Jersey. The divers spent seven years
searching for the truth behind the ship and
men who died inside it. William Broyles ("Jarhead")
is adapting the screenplay.

Apollo 13 writer William Broyles Jr. is to pen the adaptation
of Robert Kurson's Shadow Divers: The True Adventure of Two
Americans Who Discovered Hitler's Lost Sub for Fox 2000 Pictures.
The story follows the exploits of two wreck divers who in 1991
discovered a sunken German U boat resting deep but alarmingly
close to the New Jersey shoreline. The two men, John Chatterton
and Rich Kohler, dove to depths approaching 230 feet -- the
limits of human endurance -- to solve the mystery of how it
wound up there. Both suffered great losses in the course of
solving the mystery: One saw his marriage ruined, while both
lost several friends who died exploring the wreck.
