Latest updates

Shi is a comic book character created by William Tucci that has been in development for a good few years now and never seems to get the green light and actually get made. Rumours first started about a movie adaptation back in 1997 when Tia Carrerre was on the cover of an issue of Shi as the character. Tia Carrerre was quite in demand round about that time after her performance in Waynes World and True Lies so rumours about the movie flew around quite a bit at that time.

One thing that was substantiated was that Tucci was writing a script for a movie and he commented on it with this "If everything goes well, along with writing the script, I'll be producing the film and serving as the art director, as well." Rumours also flew around this time that Stephen Baldwin, Tom Berenger and David Fincher had also signed onto the project. Tia Carrerre continued to be mentioned with her husband thought to be involved in producing.

It then looked as if things were all systems go with Carrerre definetely signed on with Tucci saying this : "They're going to shoot it in Toronto and New York. They've announced it at the Cannes Film Festival, and they've paid me to write the script. Tia's signed on; she was on Howie Mandel talking about it the other day."

But then scheduling problems looked to be holding the movie back with Carrerre explaining why "We just did a first draft, he's rewriting the script right now, it's just a matter of finding the place for me to do the film, my first hiatus is March to May and I definitely would like to do something in that time frame. But I also have my music, so it's hard!"

But she was also rumoured to be starring in The Colony during that break so Shi got pushed back again.

Warner Brothers then got involved in the project and Tucci's involvement in the project was scaled down as he announced : "They're hiring an A-list writer to do a polish on the script, because now that Warner Bros is involved, it's really taking off and going into a big budget with A-list stars."

So it then looked as if Tia Carrerre was out of the project with Mira Sorvino rumoured for the role, and Tucci had the following to say about warner Brothers involvement "There's been a big power play at Warner Bros. When I signed at Franchise Pictures, who was producing the movie, it was going to be Tia Carerre and it was going to be a $15-17 million movie. Now, it's a Warner Bros. movie, it's a $40 million movie and, the last I heard, it's going to be Mira Sorvino."

He then announced that he was finishing up the script for the Shi movie with Kevin Bernhardt co-writing.

Warner Brothers option then expired and it reverted back to Franchise Pictures who originally had the project, and Tucci indicated that some bg name actresses were interested.

And that is as far as things hav gotten so far.
