5th May 2004: Shrek 2 Update:
The hype machine has moved the release date of Shrek 2 forward
from May 21st to May 19th. Jim Tharp from distributer DreamWorks
said, "I can't remember a time when we've felt more anticipation
for a film from both the public and the press. The response
to early screenings has been wonderful, so we thought this would
be a great way to meet the demand to see the movie and to give
audiences a way to guarantee having tickets in hand when they
get to the theatre."

22nd January 2004: Shrek 2 Update:
Co-Director Andrew Adamson has revealed that they felt they
wrapped up Shrek too neatly not allowing themselves enough room
for sequels and wishes they had not had Shrek and Fiona get
married in the first one "But it actually forced us to
push the story through more twists and turns and prevented us
from letting the film fall back into sequel cliches. This time
at least, we're preparing for it. We're trying not to make the
same mistakes," added Adamson. "In the first movie,
Shrek learned he could be lovable to some degree. This movie,
he learns how to love, and at some point, he needs to learn
to love himself. So there is still more to be told about these
characters. They still have room to go."

Thursday 17th July 2003: Shrek 2 Update:
Much anticipated computer-animated sequel Shrek 2 will be "bigger, better
and funnier" according to co-director Kelly Asbury. "That's always the goal
when you make a sequel, to give the audience more, he said in a recent
interview. He also revealed the film will delve deeper into the characters
and their relationships, while aiming its satire squarely at Hollywood.
"Like with any sequel, what I like to go to a sequel for is to see the
further adventures of these characters that I've fallen in love with, he
added. "And that's what we're trying to do with this. We're not just trying
to recreate the first one. We're trying to take it to the next level
emotionally. The film, which is currently in production, is slated for
release in June 2004.
Tuesday 1st July 2003: Shrek 2 Update:
Jeffrey Katzenberg has been talking about Shrek 2 "'Shrek 2' is about coming to terms with the fact that everything that happened in the first Shrek was a gigantic mistake. Shrek was not meant to rescue Fiona. Her true love was meant to be Prince Charming. There was a whole plan of what was going to happen to Fiona, her future and her kingdom, and Shrek has made a fine mess of all of it. It begins with an invitation from Fiona's mom and dad, who, you recall, locked her away in a castle to await Prince Charming's kiss".

Thursday 12th December 2002: Shrek 2 Update:
Dreamworks have signed up Scholastic ( publisher and distributor of children's books) as the primary publishing licensee for Shrek 2. They will get the rights to publish all novelizations, coloring and activity books, picture and storybooks based on DreamWorks' next five animated films that will include Shrek 2.
12th June 2002: Shrek 2 Update:
John Cleese, Monty Python star and 'Q' in the latest Bond film, Die Another Day, will lend his vocal talents to Shrek 2, playing Princess Fiona's father. The news was posted on Teletext.co.uk. He said that working on the film is "much like radio. I started out in radio. It's my favourite medium". Fiona is to be voiced once again by Cameron Diaz. She joins Mike Myers and Eddie Murphy, who both return for the sequel.
3/4/02
Sci Fi reports that Cameron Diaz is ready to do Shrek 2, although she has yet to see a script.
"I hope it allows it to just stay true to Fiona and to tell the message that Shrek has sent out," she said in an interview. Since Fiona became an ogre at the end of Shrek, Diaz could have a completely different character to play in part two, and she said she welcomes such a challenge. "That's the fun thing," Diaz said. "Once I know what the story is, once there's a script, then you can start playing with it. There's such a creative, wonderful group of people who created Shrek, and so funny too, they have such a great sense of humor and really just good people that I think they'll come up with something very fun."
Check out Sci Fi Wire for more info.
28/1/02
Jerry Katzenberg has been talking to CNN about the proposed Shrek sequel. The film pick up from where the original finished, Dark Horizons picked up the info, "The story starts when Shrek and Fiona return from their honeymoon to find a letter - its Fiona's parents inviting the newlyweds around for dinner, and are unaware of what happened to their daughter." It's also been confirmed that Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy will return for some more fun.
7/1/02
It looks like Shrek 2 will go into production, not surprising if you look at the box office of the original movie. Original screenwriters Terry Russio and Ted Elliott will not pen the sequel. Yesterday, they said this in Creative Screenwriting Magazine;
"Many great SHREK sequels can be made...we felt that all good sequel versions had a similar quality, being that you start out with a fairy tale convention and out of those conventions you tell a dramatic and funny story. But the story idea Dreamworks chose for SHREK 2" (also appeared on Corona).
On board to write Shrek 2 are David Stern and David Weiss.
Corona also reports that only one half of the original directing team behind Shrek will return for Shrek 2, Andrew Adamson. Adamson will direct Truckers first for Dreamworks, a live action/ animated flick.
No news on whether any of the original cast will return for Shrek 2. Back in August 2001 it was reported that Cameron Diaz had signed a $10 million deal to return as Fiona. It is presumed that all of the original cast have said that they will return, as there just wouldn't be another Shrek movie without them.
Worth a note, but this is totally unbelievable as it's impossible to put a CGI animated movie together in such a short period of time, but CountingDown, a usually very accurate site list Shrek 2 as being released on July 2nd 2002! Can't be correct surely.
