Thomas
Haden Church is to star alongside Paul Giamatti in director
Alexander
Payne’s comedy Sideways. Virginia Madsen is also
in final talks to come on
board as the female lead, with shooting slated to begin
in September. Based
on the upcoming novel by Rex Pickett, the film is about
a man (Giamatti) who
is about to get married and decides to take a road trip
with his best friend
(Church) up to vineyard country for one last blowout.
During that week, the
duo get into trouble with wine and women (played by
Madsen and Sandra Oh)
and come to some profound realizations in their pre-midlife
crises.
Wednesday
23rd July 2003: Sideways Update:
Director Alexander Payne has signed up Thomas Haden
Church to star with
Paul Giamatti and Virginia Madsen in Sideways that will
be produced by
Michael London at Fox Searchlight. Filming is thought
to be starting in the
Santa Ynez Valley in California this September. The
movie will be based on
the novel by Rex Pickett. The script has been written
by Alexander Payne
and Jim Taylor and will tell the story of man (Giamatti)
who is about to
get married and decides to take a road trip with his
best friend (Church)
up to vineyard country for one last blowout. During
that week, the duo get
into trouble with wine and women and come to some profound
realizations in
their pre-midlife crises.

2nd July 2003: Sideways Update:
Alexander
Payne is to direct the comedy Sideways, based on the
upcoming novel by Rex Pickett. Paul Giamatti is attached
to star, with Sandra Oh on board in a supporting role.
Shooting is slated to begin in September in California.

Tuesday 15th April 2003: Sideways Update:
Director Alexander Payne's next movie is thought
to be being called Sideways.
The movie is being made outwith the distribution system
and
will be set in California and will centre on late thirtysomething
males who go on a trip to tour the vineyards of the
Golden State
just before one of them is to be married.
