Thursday
3rd July 2003: Spartan Update:
Katrina has been in touch with a ton of info on Spartan
"
The movie location for the day on Wed., Jun 25th 2003
was on Hanson's Farm in Framingham , MA US.
I am a member of the Hanson family & was able to
get some good photos, and have been collecting them
from friends and family. The good ones will be posted
on www.angelfire.com/film/hansons
when I get them. The trailers and ground crew moved
in the night before... it is a narrow country road,
and they caused a stir. Work began around 8am -- I was
present & could move
among cast & crew from about 11am -4pm. The final
wrap up was before dark, (before 8:30pm.)All crew members
were pleasant, but hardworking. Rebecca Pidgeon was
present, but kept to the background. The author Eric
Haney was
present, although I am not sure of the connection to
the movie? Val Kilmer was working hard all day &
not really talking to the crowd early on, but later
in the day where he was less in demand, he became friendly
& talked
with the crowd of locals that had gathered. I spoke
a few words to him, but he was focused on the scenery,
the heat, the horses, (he said he had some as well,
etc.) and doing some local shopping. The temperature
reached 100
degrees Fahrenheit that day... ouch~ According to reports
of the day, the crew was staying at the Charles Hotel
in Cambridge, and were planning on filming in Boston
later in the week. (unsubstantiated rumor on the hotel
location!) WBZ TV interviewed Val Kilmer while he was
there, for both their own use and for Joyce Kulhawik
(spelling?) to use on Entertainment Tonight. All other
press was restricted, much to their dismay. Several
scenes were filmed... some
scenery, some background action, and a few active scenes.
The primary one worked on for the morning involved an
actor named Morris (last name not known?) loading feed
into a truck, presumably to be driven by Kilmer. Kilmer
has a short discussion with him, and ends the scene
inside the
truck, ready to drive away (to be continued later, I'm
sure). A young girl is an extra in that scene, and is
rumored to be David Mamet's daughter... they called
her Clara during filming. There was more action, but
I missed
quite a bit by missing both ends of the day. Local rumor
tells me that there was a general 'scenery' scene involving
some of the Hanson family as extras. Hopefully they
won't hit the cutting room floor & will get included.
(One is my DAD!)"

27th June 2003: Spartan Update:
Just
received the following info on the Spartan shoot. Thanks
to Michael!"Val Kilmer shoots scenes for thriller
in Framingham. Actor Val Kilmer wasn't doing chores,
but he was working on a farm here this week, filming
scenes for a new political thriller written and directed
by David Mamet. ''Spartan'' is being filmed at several
Boston-area locations, including a 50-acre farm near
Callahan State Park in Framingham. The film tells the
story of a special operations officer, played by the
43-year-old Kilmer, and his protege, who are recruited
to find the missing daughter of a high-ranking government
official, The MetroWest Daily News reported. Shooting
began Wednesday and was expected to last eight or nine
days. Other planned area locations include Charles Street
and the new Leonard P. Zakim Bunker Hill Bridge in Boston,
the city's Jamaica Plan neighborhood and the nearby
town of Bridgewater, said Robin Dawson of the Massachusetts
Film Bureau. "

26th June 2003: Spartan Update:
Just received the following information on the filming
of Spartan "Some of
the filming for Spartan takes place tomorrow, 6/25/03,
in Framingham
Massachusetts at Hanson's Farm on Nixon Road. They've
brought in all the
props (gas pumps and signs), gave the barn a bit of
a face lift, and have a
trailer parked right out front containing all the production
equipment.
Rumor has it that the street will be shut down during
filming - not
surprising, considering the farm is right on the narrow,
country road."
Thanks to Robert!

Thursday
26th June 2003: Spartan Update:
Just received the following update on Spartan "Nixon
Road was, in fact, closed today all day while filming
took place. Early this evening, however, I went back
and got a bunch of shots of the Farm along with the
crew, some of whom were cleaning up, others of whom
appeared to be shooting a small scene. There may be
someone of (less notable) note in the shots (a producer
or director, perhaps). More filming is scheduled for
Copley Square and the Trinity Church in downtown Boston
tomorrow." Thanks to Robert!
Tuesday
24th June 2003: Spartan Update:
Just received the following info on the Spartan
filming "Filming to begin in the Boston area this
week. I observed crews setting up cables and equipment
in the Blue Hills reservation just south of Boston today
(Mon. 23 June). quite a few trucks staged in the headquarters
park lot." Thanks to Michael!

Casting news on the currently filming Spartan with
word that Kristen Bell has been signed up for an as
yet unrevealed role.

Monday 9th June 2003: Spartan Update:
Just received the following info on the Spartan
filming "I'm the owner of a
video rental store which is located in Santa Clarita
California and the movie spartan was filmed across the
street for about 4 days. I went over there and introduced
myself and talked with Derek Luke and told him that
I'm currently promoting his movie Antwone Fisher so
he signed our poster and also the biker boyz poster.
When I was over there they were filming Derek Luke on
the floor, somehow he gets shot and he was in pain on
the floor it took 2 shots and afterwards when he came
over he was full of blood so I think it's pretty much
a certainty that his character takes a bullet in the
movie." Thanks to Raymond!

Monday 9th June 2003: Spartan Update:

Haney, author of "Inside Delta Force: The story
ofamerica's elite counterterrorist unit was hired by
David after Mamet read Haney's book, loved it,and called
him in just as production was starting to work with
the actors, costumers, set design, property masters,
armorers, etc. Haney took Derek Luke, Val KIlmer , Matt
Molloy (supporting role) and a couple of others into
Joshua Tree National Forest for a few days of wilderness
work, orienteering, and that whole male bonding thing.
They all loved it." Thanks to Anon!
