Antonio Banderas is thought to sill be interested in taking the lead in Tarantula for director Pedro Almodovar. Tarantula has one damn weird concept, and is based on a FRench novel that centres on a futuristic plastic surgeon that takes revenge on the man who raped his daughter by performing an unwanted sex-change operation on him! Antonio Banderas has said that he plans to film the movie in 2004.

28th May 2002: Tarantula Update:
Brother Augustin and Pedro Almodovar have announced at the Cannes Films Fesival that they intend to adapt French novel Tarantula to the big screen. The futuristic novel tells the story of a man's revenge driven attack on his daughter's rapist. A plastic surgeon, he confronts him and performs a sex change operation on him.

Spanish actors Antonio Banderas and Penelope Cruz are up for roles in the film. Initial thoughts are that Cruz will play the plastuc surgeon's daughter while Banderas will play the rapist.

It's thought that the film will be foreign language, seeing both actors return to their roots with a director that helped launch both of their Hollywood careers. Banderas was in Oscar-nominated Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown and Cruz in 1999’s Oscar-winner All About My Mother. Both directed by Pedro Almodovar.
