Seems like Bob and Harvey Weinstein are abandoning their artsie-indie roots entirely for their new co. with the news that they will co-distribute with Warner Bros. the new TMNT CGI movie. The movie is being written and directed by Kevin Munroe with consultation from co-creator Peter Laird.

Wednesday 14th August 2002: Ninja Turtles Update
Looks like this project may not be dead after all. Statements by Corey Feldman that the CGI project that was to be directed by John Woo had been killed off may be false. Well today the official site had the following to say about the rumours

"Despite the statements made by Corey Feldman, rest assured that the new
cartoon will debut on Fox in the first quarter of 2003 - probably in late
February or March. Corey was most likely talking about the computer animated
show - which was scrapped. The new 2D cartoon has definitely NOT been
scrapped. We're currently in negotiations with several studios interested in
doing a fourth TMNT movie - so that hasn't been scrapped either."

So we can ignore his comments, guess we need more word from John Woo's camp to find out where things are at.

Just received an email from 'David' over in Australia who has sent us all the information that he knows on the forthcoming 'Ninja Turtles' movie, "For starters it isnt going to be called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it is simply going to be called Ninja Turtles. its going to be a new generation turtle movie, hence a new name. it will be set around when the turtles grow up and start adult hood, and yes ive herd puberty issues may be included in the movie. its going to be far more violent, darker and have lots more swearing (if there ever was any in the movies) expect to here the f and s words a few times". (Thanks David).

This one came out of nowhere. John Woo recently announce that he, along with Terence Chang would be bringing the cult heroes back in a brand new movie that would see them brought to the screen in CGI.

No when I first heard of this, I couldn't believe it, John Woo resurrecting that poor franchise from the early nineties that spawned two sequels and cartoon series? Well he is but man, he's taking it way back to the rather dark, comic book series created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird. There's even a cartoon series to run alongside the new film.

There is no director attached as of yet. Producer John Woo has been mentioned as a candidate, but its doubtful as to whether he will choose to do this in a directing role also.

To kick off, there's a few images from a demo reel over at PlanetRacers.com. Very rough though, but gives a feel for what we can expect from the movie.
