Wednesday 3rd December 2003: The Terminal Update:
Tom Hanks' "The Terminal", directed by Steven Spielberg will shooting be at Montreal's 'Mirabel Airport' for one week in January. The film is about an eastern European immigrant (Hanks) who flees a war in his homeland, only to become stranded in the terminal of an airport when his country's issuing passport is no longer valid. Without a home, he takes up residence in the terminal itself, befriending the staff of the airport and falling in love with a flight attendant.

Just received the following info on the Terminal filming "The interiors are being shot in Palmdale at Plant 42, which has the largest aircraft hanger in California – the same one where the B-2 bomber was developed and built. Shooting is scheduled for October 17th - November 30th." Thanks to Anon!

Wednesday 6th August 2003: Terminal Update:
It has been revealed today that the Terminal production considered filming
at JFK, New York for it's interior fiolming but the production instead
decided on building sets at Palmdale, california and will use Terminal 4
for it's outside shots. Terminal's location manager Mike Fantasia had this
to say about the location
"We loved the look of Terminal 4, but we have so much filming to do, we
couldn't film there. We couldn't have the control we needed in the
terminal," said Mike Fantasia, the film's location manager. Rather, the Tom
Hanks starrer will use a number of the exterior shots from the terminal as
the backing for the hanger."

Monday 2nd June 2003: Terminal Update:
Filmjerk have scored a synopsis for Tom Hanks and Steven Speilberg's Terminal that is in development "When his tiny country of Slovenia undergoes a coup, Viktor Navorski (played by Hanks) is indefinitely detained at JFK International Terminal in New York. Unable to leave the airport to enter the confines of the U.S. or go back home to a country that no longer exists, Viktor has fallen through a crack of an unforgiving bureaucracy. Despite Port Director Frank Mercer's efforts to make his exile as uncomfortable as possible, Viktor finds a surprisingly rich life within the confines of the terminal - including a sweet romance with beautiful but insecure flight attendant Amelia (the role Catherine Zeta-Jones is circling)". Other characters in the movie include a rude elderly East Indian custodian, a 30s/40s African-American immigration officer, a young disabled Honduran food manager, a Latin female I.N.S. officer, and two construction personnel. "
Friday 11th April 2003: Terminal Update:
Catherine Zeta-Jones and Bernie Mac have emerged as the top choices to star
opposite Tom Hanks in DreamWorks' Terminal for director Steven Spielberg.
Hanks is set to play Victor, a Balkan immigrant in the United States forced
to make an airport international transit lounge his home after he learns
that the borders of his war-torn nation have been blurred, voiding his
passport and leaving him without a country. Zeta-Jones is being eyed for the
role of a flight attendant who attracts Victor's attention, while Mac could
end up playing a guy who runs the baggage carousel while conducting business
of his own on the side.
Friday 7th February 2003: Terminal Update:
It is thought that Steven Spielberg will sign up to direct Tom Hanks in a movie to be called Terminal at the end of this year. The script has been written by Jeff Nathanson and Sacha Gervasi. The movie would centre on Tom Hanks playing an Eastern European immigrant who becomes a resident of a New York airport terminal when a war breaks out and erases his country from the map, voiding his passport. He makes friends with the airport staff and falls in love with a flight attendant.

Terminal. Let's see where will we start. Ok let's start with the story.
Terminal tells the tale of a Balkan refugee who gets stranded in America
after the war in the Balkans and for some reason his passport becomes
invalid. So what does he do? Well he decides/has to live in the Terminal
building itself.
Sounds really dull doesn't it, but to liven things up he makes friends with
the airport cops and staff, oh and he has an affair with a Latino babe. And
to finish off the mix he runs off. Where to, well that I don't know yet.
Andrew Niccol was lined up to direct, this could have been a good choice to
bring out the humanity of the character a la The Truman Show, but he passed
and is directing A River Road.
No other word on casting or if there is anyone else attached to helm
Terminal yet, wonder if Hanks will look to his Castaway director to direct
Terminal, sounds reasonable me thinks.
