Just received the scoop that Jerry Goldsmith is composing the
score for Thunderbirds, not as was previously thought Hans Zimmer.
And also word reaches us that Busted are providing the end titles
song for the movie. It really does make you wonder what audience
the movie is being pitched at with Busted being a pre-teen girl's
favourite pop band, perfectly suitable for a romantic comedy,
but an action sci fi movie?

A few more details about the forthcoming Thunderbirds movie have emerged. The most significant development is the online appearance of the new-look Thunderbird 4. Thursday 13th November 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Ben Kingsley has been talking about his role as dastardly do-badder The Hood
in the forthcoming Thunderbirds movie. “I do enjoy playing an out-and-out
pantomime villain," he said. "There is absolutely no subtlety to my
performance whatsoever. If you find any of it, let me know. He actually has
a backstory to him. I made him obsessive and neurotic and a control freak,
and all those I enjoy playing." He also confirmed that the same principle
elements can be found in both the TV series and the movie. "[It's] the same
version of good and bad, of rescuing and combating naughty people. It's a
wonderful film for children."

Thursday 16th October 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
A few FAB snippets from the forthcoming Thunderbirds movie have emerged.
Bill Paxton, who plays dad Jeff Tracy, has said: "If we hit this right, this
movie's a celebration of all our childhoods,” while director Jonathan Frakes
added: "We haven't changed [too much]. A lot of the casting is physically
like the characters. The actors do look like the marionettes." Meanwhile, a
new picture of Paxton in costume has appeared online. To see it click here.
Thursday 2nd October 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Jon at Sci-Fi Online just sent in the following that originally appeared at Dark Horizons "Have a bit of news on The Thunderbirds movie which was on a kids movie programme, 'Call the Shots' on the BBC. The programme went behind the scenes of some of the sets at Pinewood. To say they are big is an understatement. They said that most of Pinewood was taken up with Thunderbird sets. The set they showed was in Thunderbird 2's Hangar. Off to one side was the entrance to Thunderbird 1's hangar. It showed the landing gear of TB 2 and a couple of the utility vehicles including Firefly (!). The shot being taken was a sequence with Brain's son and Tin Tin in the hangar. Tin Tin came across as being a lot younger than she was portrayed in the original Thunderbirds. They jumped in Firefly and drove off. Brain's son driving and Tin Tin on what looked like a gun turret. This was all done as someone was coming down in one of the lifts. Not sure who it was as it was just a camera in the lift. One of the Tracey son's was also in the shot briefly. There was also a short interview with Brain's son and director Jonathan Frakes".

Tuesday 23rd September 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Jon has just sent in the following "Jonathan Frakes, the former Star Trek helmer who is now directing a live-action Thunderbirds movie, told the Empire Online Web site that the film will try to please both diehard fans and newcomers to the franchise. "It is part of the blessing and part of the curse," Frakes told the site about adapting the beloved 1960s marionette TV series. "It's the same thing with Star Trek: There is an audience of [fans] who are passionate about the show who would be offended if it was different from the original, and yet there's a huge audience of people who know nothing about Thunderbirds."
But Frakes promised that the film will have some familiar elements. "You have the palm trees folding down, and Thunderbird 2 taking off, and the swimming pool sliding back, so all the good bits are in," he said. He added: "It's big ships and loud music. It's going to be a big movie. It's a prequel. The kids are about 10 years younger than when the show takes place [as] shown in the '60s. So our little heroes are 12, 13, 14 years old."
Frakes, who played Cmdr. Ryker in Star Trek: The Next Generation, also said that he'll appear in Thunderbirds in a cameo role. "If you watch closely, you might [see me]," he said. "That's all I can tell you.""

Thursday 4th September 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Sir Ben Kingsley, who plays The Hood in the upcoming live action version of
Thunderbirds, has been speaking about the movie. "We're making a film of
quality," he said at a recent press conference. "So it's not an
out-of-kilter thought to bring the best possible cast together to tell this
pure story of the struggle for a boy's soul, and to present this tale to
children in the brightest, clearest and most fantastic way possible.”
Meanwhile, a number of images of the vehicles used in the film have appeared

Wednesday 9th July 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Naomi Harris has been talking about her role in Thunderbirds as an American
News reporter "I'm sort of on the scene and reporting live about what's
happening. They're basically doing it as a live-action version of the
[British TV] show [which was realized with marionettes]."
Thursday 26th June 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Gerry Anderson has been venting his spleen again over the Thunderbirds
movie "I was really quite prepared to [support the picture] in my own way,
but they wanted me to enthuse over it. And then I saw [Lady] Penelope's new
car, which was published in the papers, and I thought it was a monstrosity!
I thought if that's the kind of thing they're doing, how can I possibly
support the picture? Could I lean against the car and have my picture taken
and say, 'Isn't it terrific?' I couldn't do that. It's disappointing for
me, and I have a feeling it's going to be disappointing for them as well.
For example, there's no way I'm going to go to the premiere unless things
change."

Friday 20th June 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Bill Paxton has been talking today about Thunderbirds "I've got one more
day left on Thunderbirds,' Bill told us. 'It's going to be tremendous. You
heard it from me first. Thunderbirds is about the International Rescue and
The Hood and in a way it's got an innocent charm, great action and great
scale and great characters. To me it has an old-fashioned, retro set of
ethics. I feel like it's going to be embraced as a breath of fresh air as
far as a big family movies go. But when I say family friendly, I don't mean
homogenised. This thing has got something for everyone and I mean that in a
great filmmaking way. I think it's got to be a tour de force. It's great to
see the five brothers running together and all that. It's got a lot of
integrity, but it has an innocent charm that I haven't seen in films in a
while. Everything was coming out of London in the 1960s ? the music, the
fashion, the great actors. That's kind of what Thunderbirds is celebrating
? the 60s ? but not in an Austin Powers kind of way." A teaser trailer for
Thunderbirds appeared at a preview screening of Hulk in London last night.

Friday 16th May 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
With filming on the Thunderbirds movie in full swing, the co-chairman of the
UK production company behind the film has been talking about the project.
Working Titles Tim Bevan explained the approach they are taking in the USA
with the movie, which has the largest budget ($50 million-plus) the company
has ever toyed with. The decision we've made is that the puppet show
doesn't exist as far as the U.S. is concerned, he said. It's just a great
idea for a movie and has all the eye candy necessary for a terrific family
film." The plan is to make an out-and-out family adventure film and the
studio is backing that strategy. "A project that puts the script and story
first in a family action-adventure movie is rare," said director Jonathan
Frakes.

Just received the following update on the filming for Thunderbirds " Just to let you know that the Thunderbirds film crew have arrived in Datchet, Berkshire to film this weekend (17th/18th may). The Computer Associates (a large American software company) building at Ditton Park is to be the San Francisco City Hospital for the film - so far there is a new sign above the enterance lobby (with the hospital name), and camera rigs set up on the roof. Monday 27th April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
It was more a question of MLady rather than Her Majesty recently when
filming on the forthcoming big screen version of Thunderbirds took place
outside Buckingham Palace in the UK. The scene featured Sophie Myles as Lady Penelope and Ron Cook as Parker, who had conveniently brought along the stunning 27ft long, six-wheeled pink Rolls Royce. English tabloid The Sun
has published three pictures which can be viewed by clicking here.
Tuesday 15th April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Garth at Dark Horizons scored a set report for Thunderbirds today that
complements our recent update "They are now filming in the watertanks on a
nightshoot for an oil rig explosion scene. But the big gossip is that
Universal is pushing to get a teaser trailer out in time for it to be
released in front of The Hulk. Thunderbird 1 flies past The Houses of
Parliament and then lands in front on the main square. Thunderbirds logo
then flies across the screen".
Monday 14th April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Just received the following information on Thunderbirds from an insider on the project "Gossip is that the production costs have risen to £70m. A sequence is now being shot on a massive out door set in which TB 1 and 2 are used to rescue workers from a burning oil rig. FAB 1 doesn't look a patch on the original. Cliveden in Bucks is being used for exteriors of lady P's house. One of the stages has been transformed into the silo which houses the birds. A mad
looking drilling machine called the 'Mole' is being used by the baddy
(Ben Kingsley). " Thanks to Anon!
Monday 7th April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Just received the following info on Thunderbirds "FAB1 is going to be a Ford ( they are supplying a lot of vehicles for the film) the inside looks fantastic with pale pink leather, plenty of aluminium and Burr Walnut. Wellington College (Crowthorne In Berkshire) is Wharton Academy( filming has been taking place 31/3 to 3/4 there)" Thanks to James!
Thursday 3rd April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Lady Penelope's swanky pink limousine FAB 1 has been unveiled, giving fans
their first glimpse of the new Thunderbirds movie Click Here
. The classic six-wheel car, driven by faithful chauffeur Parker, is part of the £40
million production which has just started filming. Lady Penelope is being
played by actress Sophia Myles, who is delighted with the vehicle: "FAB 1 is
the ultimate dream car, she said. I am so honoured and thrilled to have
the opportunity to be able to represent this iconic character on the big
screen." FAB 1, designed by the Thunderbirds team and Ford UK's designers,
has been overhauled from its 1960s look was hand-built over a period of 12
weeks. Unlike the original, the new version will be able to fly and turns
into a hydrofoil. Producer Tim Bevan said: "This is the first glimpse of the
new look Thunderbirds Movie and it is just the beginning. We hope to fully
realise the genius of the original series and bring it to life for an
entirely new generation worldwide.
Tuesday 1st April 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Two more snips of info in Thunderbirds today "There seems to be some filming for the movie taking place at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire,
UK. This is a boys public school which has been renamed
"Wharton Acadamy est 1860" for the shoot. There is a
large yellow american school bus on site which is
being used. Pink signs marked "Tracy" guide crew to
the site. Filming started today and is set to last 4
to 5 days." & "They are filming at Wellington College in Crowthorne, Berkshire, UK for the new Thunderbirds Movie! We have seen Penelope's Rolls Royce. Filming started today." Thanks to Natasha and S. Graves!
Monday 31st March 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Just received the following info from the filming of Thunderbirds " My wife and I have just seen the Thunderbirds crew setting up at Wellington
College in Berkshire. We don't know much about the industry but we saw a
huge brick wall at the entrance with the legend "Wharton Academy" and lots
of evidence around the campus. It seems to be a flashback to Alan Tracy's
days at college. We found a table set out with props such as a newspaper
dated February 2020 giving a history of the Academy and it's famous pupils
over the last 100 years. There are lots of photos of college team captains
and so on. We also found a copy of Alan Tracy's college report. They had
produced quite a few copies of this in a plastic bag which we opened.
Inside the report, it gives a detailed view of all his achievements.
Around the Campus, Wellington College signs have been replaced with Wharton
Academy logos and there are many signs and notice boards with relevant info
on them. At the entrance to the college, there is an Old Whartonian's map
and guide to the campus and the letterbox has been covered with blue tape
(normally it's brass) to match the blue school colours. In the car park,
they were delivering left-hand drive unplated cars and a big yellow American
school bus arrived as we were leaving. Filming takes place over the next 4
days, and they will be striking the set on Friday. We nearly got away with
Alan Tracy's school report but a security man stopped to chat! I expect
you're all horrified that we even thought of such a thing. However, we're
going back later to get our photo taken against the School Sign at the
entrance. What a load of rubberneckers. I bet they hate people like us!
This is the first location filming they've done. Most of it is being filmed
at Pinewood where I used to live. Watch out for the scenes being filmed in
Black Park behind the studios - a cycle race so we're told." Thanks to Anon!
Wednesday 5th March 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
AICN got the following set report on Thunderbirds "On set at moment here at lot 6. It looks basically like the inside of Tracy Island from the TV show.Only more modern and not made of carboard!. There is a big hole in the floor where sparks come up when filming, this seems to be some damage that has happened when Tracy Island came under attack (sub story which not show in film. we only hear about it) life is getting back to normal after some big event when they get "the call". Something BIG is happening on lot 2, I'm not allowed in because I don't have clearance, but Production is trying to keep it under tight wraps. The film is by Tracy Films Ltd, and the story is unclear to me at the moment. The basic outline of the story is that something (possibly belonging to the Government) is stolen, and while the Thunderbirds team are trying to recover it, one of the 5 Tracy brothers gets kidnapped and the mission then turns into a rescue and recovery. The set is spaced out over about 5 of the Studios' 19 stages ñ including the world famous Albert R Broccoli 007 Stage. We know the Bond film ran over, and this has something to do with the script being changed. Why? I'll never know. But the crew seem more than happy about the script change. "

Thursday 30th January 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Bill Paxton is in talks with Working Title to star in Thunderbirds as head of the Tracy family, who will be a billionaire former astronaut.
Monday 27th January 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Thunderbirds creator Gerry Anderson has again been venting his spleen over his lack of involvement in the Thunderbirds movie project "It amazes me. I have not been approached at all. It was my lifetime ambition to make a major movie about Thunderbirds so I feel like I have been robbed. I know the show the best and could stop them from making mistakes". Why not approach them Gerry, I'm sure they did contact you to pick up the rights and also could you not have put it in the contract that you were involved in some way, such as creative consultant?
Wednesday 15th January 2003: Thunderbirds Update:
Word has reached us that Sophia Myles has been confirmed to star as Lady Penelope in Thunderbirds.
Sunday 12th January 2003: Thunderbirds: The Movie Update:
Well it's been talked about and we've known for over a year that Jonathan Frakes was going to direct well word has came in this week that Thunderbirds has been greenlit and will start filming in March this year. The movie is being produced by Working Title with a budget of £50 million with a script by William Osborne. This will be Working Title's biggest ever spend on a project andc comes as a complete break from their usual rom-com movies, wonder if they'll find Hugh Grant a role though? Producer Tim Bevan has been talking about why this project has been son long in gestation "We started work five years ago on this but we could never quite get the script right, and in retrospect, thank God we didn't. The special effects and their cost in particular have moved on so much since then - you can see it between the first and second Harry Potter films. Getting the Thunderbirds craft right is as important as getting the casting right. Thunderbirds 1, 2, 3 and 4 are the heroes of the piece in many ways. We have been faithful in the new designs to Gerry Anderson's original concepts in the way that the new Volkswagen Beetle or the new Mini are to their old ones" FX for the movie will be created by Framestore who are most famous for the FX they created for Walking With Dinosaurs. The movie is being filmed at Pinewood studios in England and also in the Seychelles. The plot is not thought to be the one talked about late last year with the kids being the main focus. Instead the main character is thought to be Alan Tracy. Casting rumours has it that Sophie Myles has bagged the role of Lady Penelope but Working Title have so far refused to confirm this. Parker is thought to be being played by Ron Cook. One thing about the project that is interesting is that Working Title have not involved Gerry Anderson in the project in any way whatsoever and naturally he isn't best pleased "I'm not going to ask anyone for any favours. All Working Title have to do is negotiate with me. I do not know why I have not been asked to help. It was my number one ambition to make a big movie. At the moment I won't be involved. What I am saying is that if people reading your report want to know why I'm not involved, that is a question I cannot answer. They should contact Working Title. I am not going to lower myself by approaching them."
Saturday 16th November 2002: Thunderbirds Update:
The script looks to be widly different to the TV series it has been revealed this week. The script is by Will Osborne and instead of centring on the Tracy brothers it strands them up in Thunderbird 5 while their kids take on villain Aristotle Spode who tries to steal the Thunderbirds vehicles for his own nefarious means. Jonathan Frakes had this to say "Our version of Thunderbirds will be entirely live-action with a Spy Kids meets James Bond kind of vibe" Seems like absolutely no point calling it a Thunderbirds movie, why not call it Thunderkids, or keep this idea for a sequel. I personally want to see a Thunderbirds movie that centres on them rescuing, not a crap Spy Kids rip off!
Friday 25th October 2002: Thunderbirds Update:
The new live action Thunderbirds movie looks likely to kick off production in February 2003. The film will be directed by Star Trek's Jonathan Frakes from a script by Will Osbourne. Thunderbirds is based on the popular 1960's TV series created by Gerry Anderson.
Monday 7th October 2002: Thunderbirds Update:
A scooper for Aint It Cool News has managed to get a hold of the script for Thunderbirds. Here's the important bits. He described it as Spy KIds without the clever story and pacing. The story will centre on a young Alan Tracy, his friend Fermat (son of Brains) and a young Tintin.. They are left on Tracy sland when Jeff, Scott, Virgil and Gordon fly up to Thunderbird 5 in space and get stranded. Well it's a trp sprung by the bad guy Aristotle Spode and the kids have to rescue the Gordon brothers, oh and a sexy Lady Penelope. The scooper revealed that there isn't any resuces in the movie, but what he does say is that he skimmed a lotof the script, so might have missed a lot. Ie a lot of action sequences don't get described much in scripts. The script has been written by William Osborne.
30th July 2002: Thunderbirds Update:
And so it looks like Thunderbirds will finally make it to the big screen. The film will be based on the cult 60's British TV show created by Gerry Anderson, where retired astronaught Jeff Tracy and his five sons set up a secret international rescue squad.
The film has a director, Star Trek's William Riker, Jonathan Frakes, whose last film was Clockstoppers. Gerry and Sylvia Anderson will produce alongside Eric Fellner and Tim Bevan.
The film will be live action and not CGI animation as reported elsewhere.
The IMDB says that the film's shoot will take in Hawaii, London, New York, Los Angeles, Australia and Portugal.
