Wednesday 20th May 2003: Timeline Update: Paul
Walker has been talking about Timeline and the need to go back to re-shoot
some of his scenes. Yeah, we had some re-shoots, he explains.
The first couple of minutes of the movie, Dick (director Richard Donner)
didn't want to focus on the science fiction end of it. Because basically,
you know, what they've done more or less, is in the process of this company,
he's funding this archeological dig. They've stumbled upon this wormhole,
so what they're trying to make basically was a virtual like 3-D fax machine.
So as supposed to faxing a piece a paper, they can now fax that Evian bottle,
and Dick was like, man, this whole like sci-fi time machine, and blah, blah,
blah. He's like, that's really not what interests me. He's, I just want to
race through that and get more back to medieval France because to me, that's
when the fun really begins, when the movie really kicks off, and so, we just
wanted to get through it. But as a result, like a lot of the dynamics, the
character dynamics, what was really going on and what you're feeling for
the characters is important to have that established before we got back,
because as soon as were back, then we're running the whole time, basically
running for our lives.

TIMELINE
Your next film is Timeline how is that? Its
going to be a good one. The cast is awesome. Im really excited I
have high hopes for it. Its a step in the direction that I hope doing these
Fast and the Furious movies will allow me to go. Ive reached
a certain level where Ive got a bit of recognition now. Dont get me
wrong, I owe everything to Fast and the Furious so I dont
want to be misquoted or anything and Im very grateful to be a part
of it but I dont want to be doing PG-13 movies forever, you know?. But Richard
Donner directed, and I grew up on his movies Ladyhawke, The
Goonies [laughs], all the Lethal Weapon movies and when
I heard he was going to do a Michael Crichton novel I was immediately interested.
I went down and sat with him and we got on really well. I worked with Frances
OConnor a lot, almost all of my dialogue is with her. Shes great.
Its great to work with people that are better than you, because it makes
you better. From the pieces of the movie Ive seen Im really pleased.
Is that coming
out in the Summer or the Fall? Theyre saying Fall November.
There are a lot of big movies coming out in the Summer, and Im afraid ours
just doesnt have any Computer Generated Images in it so we were held
off til then. [Laughs]
Thursday 8th May 2003: Timeline Update: The release date for Timeline
has been pushed back again, and it's not for good reasons at all. Director Richard
Donner and the producer have apparently rejected the entire film score by Jerry
Goldsmith for the movie. They have hired Brian Tyler to rescore the entire movie.
Seems a strange move seeing as how Goldsmith has been nominated for an Oscar EIGHTEEN
times. Could he not have had a chance to sort what they didn't like? This has
meant the release date being pushed back to at least November.

been revealing some info about the time machine used in the movie "It was
huge. I did a movie called Crimson Tide, and we worked on this 90-foot gimbal
[moving stage]. The set for [Timeline] was twice the size, and the actual [time]
machine was almost as big as that gimbal. It was huge, very impressive."

Tuesday
7th January 2003: Timeline Update: Director Richard Donner has been talking
to the Timeline
Fansite about his upcoming big screen adaptation of
Michael Crichton's Timeline. [referring as to how close the movie will be to the
book] 'We
stayed quite close to the book. You have to remember, however, that the book was
450 pages or so. We have to take liberties to fit 100 pages into a minute and
a half scene. With Michael Chrictons blessing we made those changes. It
was his input that really made it work'.

22nd October 2002: Timeline Update: Aint
It Cool News have had an early look at the upcoming Michael Crichton big screen
adaptation Timeline, which is directed by Richard Donner. "TIMELINE was
an intriguing movie. The plot was great, as expected from the mind of Michael
Crichton, and the direction was keen, as expected from the experience of Richard
Donner. But something was missing. After much consideration I found what it is...it
was the giant void of ability exhibited by the lead, Paul Walker". Hit
the link above for the full report. Wednesday
2nd October 2002: Timeline Update: Timeline is ready. Director Richard
Donner has revealed that Timelie has completed post-production. He revealed about
the filming "We shot in Montreal for five months, and it was a pain in the
butt, we spent the majority of that time cold, wet and in the freezing mud. In
mid June we were still wearing fur lined jackets" Tuesday
17th September 2002: Timeline Update: Marton Csokas who stars in the upcoming
Michael Crichton adaptation Timeline had this to say about the project "I
glanced at the book, but I must say the film looks gorgeous - the look is reminscent
of Rembrandt, some parts of it anyway from what I saw. That was an interesting
film to be working on. The embattlements that were built, and the horses and the
armour - lots of fire. Flaming arrows going overhead, Dick Donner doesn't use
a lot of computer generated technology which while your acting is really lots
of fun as opposed to blue screen which can be daunting in imagination land, particularly
when you've got seven people looking at one arrow. I enjoyed that, and I liked
the concept. My character is a medieval military man whose in a precarious position
- not bad per se but more motivated by survival". 22nd
May 2002: Timeline Update: Just received word from Matthew
over at TheTimelineMovie.com that
he has posted a couple of pics from the set of Timeline. They feature a medieval
castle, surrounded by a string of tents. Check them out at the site.
13th May 2002: Timeline Update: Anna Friel
has been talking to Sci
Fi Wire about her new movie, the Richard Donner directed Timeline, based on
the novel of the same name by Michael Crichton. [Donner & Crichton]
promise a realistic look at the time period, without all the glamorous movie trappings
sometimes associated with medieval drama. Friel added, "We're not allowed
to use the word 'time machine' in it, because then it becomes one of those time
movies. [Donner] is making it very realistic. There's lots of gore, and it's a
real representation of the time." As
for how the gore and research affect her performance, Friel could not say, since
she only recently began work. "To be honest, I've only done two days' shooting,
and I don't really want to go into too much detail," she said. "It's
going great. I'm really enjoying it. It's the biggest set I've ever been on, the
$80 million-budget thing. Lots of jumping into the waterfalls and sword fighting
and horse riding. It's great."

Those kind folks over at Latino
Review have posted a script review of timeline. The screenplay is written
by George Nolfi, based on the novel by Michael Crichton. Here's a taster with
SPOILERS! "The action begins again at the archeological digging
site of Castlegard. Here, the young students hope to uncover the secrets of the
French/English battle of 1357 AD in order to please their mentor, the Professor,
who has left them in charge of the dig so that he might pursue his own secrets.
While excavating, Marek and Kate explore a previously hidden chamber sealed for
hundreds of years. Just before the chamber collapses (of course), they grab a
strange piece of glass and some papers. Upon closer examination, they discover
the strange glass is one lens from bifocal glasses and the paper is a handwritten
"HELP!" letter written in the year 1357 AD and signed by the Professor?
Enter the ITC Corporation headed by a man named Robert Doniger".

review here. 1/3/02 Variety
reports that Frances O' Connor is in negotiations for a role in Timeline opposite
Paul Walker and Gerard Butler. The A.I. actress will play "one of a group
of archaeology grad students who become trapped in 14th century France when they
venture there to retrieve their professor." 27/2/02
Variety reports that
Industrial Light & Magic are to create the effects for Timeline, the Richard
Donner helmed movie adaptation of Michael Crichton's novel. This was posted on
Coming Soon earlier today. "The
trade adds that the project is considered small for ILM, requiring few major computer-generated
sequences other than set extensions of castles and the creation of locations to
resemble 14th-century France". Timeline
starts shooting in April. 30/1/02
The Stax Report
posted a review of the screenplay for Timeline. Here's part of the review,
Timeline is a time travel adventure that opens in the 21st century and then
journeys back to 14th century France. An academic/archaeological team working
on an excavation of medieval ruins in France discovers that their mentor, Princeton
University professor Edward Johnston, has somehow traveled back in time to the
1300s. His disappearance is tied to the Bill Gates-like magnate of the ITC Corporation,
Robert Doniger. Without revealing too many spoilers, it turns out that Doniger
has discovered time travel and has been sending people back in time on various
missions. (I won't tell you why.) (full
review here) Filming is scheduled to start in April.
Updated : 25/7/01 Richard Donner is to direct
this, the latest Michael Crichton novel to be adapted into a film. Crichton has
apparently sold the script to Paramount for nothing, but demanded a 15% cut of
the profits up to $15 million. Filming is scheduled to start in the first
part of 2002 for a possible late 2002 release. As we know Donner can work fast
if he has to, Lethal Weapon 4 only started production in the January of 1998,
and released in the summer. The only confirmed cast member at the moment
is Gerald Butler (seen in Dracula 2000, or Dracula 2001 for all of us in the UK). Date
