Just received the following that might cause problems for the Lara Croft franchise "An absolutely phenomenal legal case is on the verge of exploding in the UK and it concerns who actually created the popular gaming character, Lara
Croft. It is alledged that Computer giants Core Design couldn't provide lawyers
certain specifics with regard to who came up with the original idea for the
heroine, though an outside party can. Timing is awful for the company as it comes in direct release of another game in the successful franchise and also the sequel to the movie. Hollywood insiders are expecting miracles for the sequel to do well." Thanks to Bonney!

Word reaches us that Tomb Raider 2 will not show at 47 of Regal
Entertainment Group's movie theatres. And why? Well apparently Paramount
and Regal fell out after Regal rejected lobby promotions for Tomb Raider 2
that involved Daimler Chrysler Jeep. Paramount then took the decision to
pull Tomb Raider 2 from the chain. Regal have a polivy of not promoting
third pary brands without compensation.

Angelina Jolie has revealed that she hated filming the first Tomb Raider
movie because of the way Lara Croft was portrayed. She described her
character as nothing more than a bimbo in a pair of ridiculously short
hotpants. Jolie, who recently finished filming the sequel Tomb Raider: The
Cradle of Life, said: “I hated Lara Croft. She was just a cute girl in tiny
shorts, that's all." She added that the first shooting of the screenplay had
not gone well and that she had to argue with the screenwriter about the
character and her shorts. But she stressed that she was pleased she was able
to turn the character into the heroine she is today. "Nowadays Lara really
is alright, she is like a special friend."

Gerard Butler has been talking about his character in Tomb Raider 2 "I think the best way to describe him would be as kind of like a Han Solo from Star Wars. He's this kind of roguish bad boy with a cheeky smile who you don't want to mess with. He's quite edgy in the movie, edgier than I would have expected Tomb Raider to have allowed their characters to be and when he has to be, he's exceptionally brutal. I was jumping out helicopters from 60 feet and dangling off and coming down from the top of the 007 stage [at London's Pinewood Studios], loads of scary machine-gun fire with glass smashing all around me. I particularly loved the fight sequences that they gave me, because they just make me out to be very, very tough and very, very callous at those moments"

Angelina Jolie has been talking about Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of
Life, hinting that a third film could be on the horizon. "This movie is more
true to the game, it's more of a puzzle," she said in a recent interview.
"The first was more of a fantasy. It was so fantastical to me, and this one
is more of a real person living in a real world." As for that second sequel,
she added: "I would definitely be open to it if the second is well-received
and the audience wants one."

Jan De Bont has been talking about Tomb Raider 2 "This is a great story, and more reality-based than the first film, concentrating on both ancient and modern worlds, but not so fantasy-based. It's a darker, sexier story, and it shows Lara's vulnerability, and is more three dimensional. She's not superhuman. She can be tested. She doesn't always have the answers. All the characters have been more thoroughly developed."

Angelina Jolie has been talking about the stunt work for Tomb Raider 2 "I'm missing a slight piece of my right elbow," she said. How did that happen? "A boat collision. And then a shotgun shell went in my eye, but that was more of a funny thing. ... It wasn't like a burn or anything, it just kind of stalled us for a few hours."

Garner.tv got a bit set report from Tomb Raider 2 Here's an excerpt "Inside the huge 007 sound stage, crews built two massive sets - one the
partially underwater ruins of the Luna Temple and the other a volcanic
plateau filled with decaying trees. It took a full crew 16 weeks to
build these massive sets. Another set held the ruins of a Chinese
temple, complete with an army of 60 Terracotta stone statues (which
will come to life thanks to CGI).Walking around the sets of the film, which take up every inch of space at Pinewood, it's obvious Paramount is investing a lot into this movie. With Jolie back in form, if this movie delivers on the promise that gamers wanted the first time around, this summer's Tomb Raider will be

Angelina Jolie has been talking about filming Tomb Raider 2 "I'd never ridden a Jet Ski, and I had a lot of practice, [but the producers] always make it more complicated. So it was stand-up Jet Skis, which took me a few days of constantly falling and getting frustrated," she says. "We started [shooting] in Greece, which was great, except I hate water and I hate bikinis. So we started this film with my worst possible day as an actress -- which is me Jet Skiing in a bikini in the water in Greece"".

Teletext.co.uk reports that ex-Bros star Luke oss has been offered a part in Tomb Raider 2 opposite Angelina Jolie. Director jan De Bont offered him the part but Goss doesn't think that he can fit it into his schedule. Luke Goss's biggest role to date was in this year's Blade II.

Tuesday 3rd September 2002: Tomb Raider: Cradle Of Life Update
Stelios, a Greek journalist who has been covering the Tomb Raider 2 shoot that has just taken place over on Santorini Island, Greece, sent me over an email earlier about what exactly they were shooting out there. Beware, as there are SPOLIERS that follow in Stelio's report. The report features a little broken English (don't forget Stelios is Greek), most of which I have corrected. Take it away my man......

"First of all the studio people confirmed to us the scene they were shooting
in Santorini was the opening scene of the film. It starts with a wide
opening shot of the castle where a big wedding reception (100 people were
hired for this) is taking place".

"Then come a large earthquake and a big explosion from the volcano (the
studio has build an enormous set, probably the interior of the volcano) and
an ancient city emerges from under water".

"We sneaked around the location and we were able to see the filming of the
jet sky sequence. I must have seen 3-4 stunt men and women doing all kind of
dangerous things for 2 days. Those who play Lara Croft were wearing a
silver like uniform with black strips. Angelina had to take a lot of takes
on the jest ski for her close ups (she fell a lot). As we learned she
doesn't like the water filming a lot. She told us "I just swim and that's
all!"

"The studio hired the best diving teams and equipment in the island and
worked around the clock for 12-15 hours a day filming action scenes. No
dialogue scenes were shot because no other actors were there. We learned that
those scenes will follow in England at Pinewood Studios".

"One day they hired a big and old fishing boat for a scene where I saw
Angelina Jolie for the first time in her full costume with those big guns.
She was running and jumping around the boat as she was in danger. That's
all I got to see. The next day they were shooting a scene that looked like a
boat wreckage. A stunt man was holding underwater a wood board and Angelina was lying on it unconscious".

"Closing I have to add that during her stay is Santorini, she talked to
everyone, everyone loved her, she attended a studio partying which local
people, saw an edited sequence of the filming and she took a day cruise alone
with her son".

Friday 29th August 2002: Tomb Raider 2 Update:
News reaches us today of the current state of play of filming on the Tomb Raider sequel. The shoot is still in Santori shooting some jet ski action with Angelina Jolie, with filming due to finish on Monday. Filming is planned also for next year in Hong Kong at Wan Chai, Mongkok and some shots of Victoria Harbour. Angelina will be taking her adopted son Maddox with her, and has hired a childminder to help out. An insider on set had this to say“Angelina wants to spend every moment she can with Maddox. She has told producers that she wants her son with her always, wherever she goes."

Wednesday 28th August 2002 : Tomb Raider 2 Update:
More word today on the filming of Tomb Raider 2 in Wales. They will use Snowdonia and other locations in Gwynedd as backdrops, but they don't want it to look like Wales, they will use CG to make it look like China! The Wales Screen Commission had this to say about the filming : "Producers will use local companies and services, injecting money into the local economy. The film company is looking at about half a dozen locations in north west Wales.We are delighted they have chosen to film here and we will be working closely with them to ensure everything goes smoothly." It is not yet known if Angelina Jolie will be in Wales for the filming.

Angelina Jolie has been talking about the location where she is currently shooting Tomb Raider 2. The lcoation is the Greek island of Santorini "I love it here. It's really beautiful, everyone has been really warm". She also talked about the reaction people had to the first movie and the water based sequences that they are shooting offshore "The are lots of things going on above and below the water. Everyone liked the first film but didn't love it. We changed a lot of things — the action sequences, everything."

Coming Attractions received word today that a scene from the upcoming Tomb Raider sequel that it will feature scientific machinery used in DNA sequencing work. Now naturally they won't be using it for good so Lara will have to stop them as they are using the tools to make weapons for chemical war.

Wednesday 14th August Tomb Raider 2 Update:
Gerard Butler will star alongside Angelina Jolie in Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life. Australian actor Jon Bennett has also joined the cast.

9th July 2002: Tomb Raider 2 Update:

The Sun had an interview with Kelly Brook where she discussed the movie she was working on Canada called Absolon. She stars in that movie alongside Christopher Lamber so I can safely assume it's straight to video nonsense. What was interesting is that they brought up the old rumour that she is all set to step into Angelina Jolie's shoes for Tomb Raider 2. Can there be any thruth in this rumour?

13th May 2002: Tomb Raider 2: Update
Variety reports that Jan De Bont (Speed, The Haunting) is in talks with Paramount Pictures to direct the follow up to last year's hit film Lara Croft: Tomb Raider. Angelina Jolie is set to return in the role of Croft in Tomb Raider 2 from a script recently submitted by Dean Georgaris.

Production is set to begin later this year.
