29th March 2004: Troy Update:
More troubles with Troy with the news that Gabriel Yared's score
has been rejected and James Horner has been signed up to record
a replacement. Troy has had a long hard road to release with
various accidents on set, including a death, Brad Pitt injuring
himself, a tropical storm. With this development it must make
the movie significantly over budget. Troy is going to need an
absolutely massive box office just to recoup it's costs, anything
less than a gigantic box office is going to be costly for the
studio.

Friday 24th October 2003: Troy Update:
Orlando Bloom has been talking about his role as Trojan prince Paris in
Wolfgang Petersen's Troy. "It was awesome," he said. "Peter O'Toole played
my dad and Eric Bana played by brother. Brad Pitt, of course, was Achilles.
I worked with some amazing people: Julie Christie, Brendan Gleeson, Brian
Cox. They're amazing and Wolfgang did an incredible job. It felt like
working on an old movie like Ben Hur or something. It was awesome!" As for
the proposed sequel to Pirates Of The Caribbean: The Curse Of The Black
Pearl, which he’s contracted to appear in, he added: "Fortunately, having
seen the results of that movie, I don't mean just how it's done but just the
enjoyment I got out of making it and working with the cast, the director,
everyone involved, I'd go back anytime."
Monday 20th October 2003: Troy Update:
Brad Pitt has been talking about a very important issue concerning Troy, his underwear "Apparently the original guys didn't wear anything. But we have an R-rated film, so we won't be doing that. I don't know how these guys fought in these things. It must have been incredibly dangerous. Talk about a kill shot!"

Tuesday 7th October 2003: Troy Update:
Moore has been in touch with the following funny report from Cabo..."We just returned from a trip to Cabo where we stayed at the same resort that the majority of cast an crew were staying. The remaining extras all left Sunday September 28th, and at least some of the lighting crew left Saturday October 4th. The extras are great "eye-candy" and we were told by some locals that they are expecting to have a lot of Bulgarian babies next year. I do have to say that all the cast and crew we encountered were very polite and the resort seemed to genuinely enjoy them staying there (not just the money they brought in)."
Thursday 2nd October 2003: Troy Update:
Just received word that the filming on Troy will continue until November due to the delays that the damage inflicted by Hurricane Marty caused. This must mean that Troy is way way over budget. The production had been way over budget anyway.
Tuesday 23rd September Troy:
Eric Bana has been talking about forthcoming epic Troy, in which he plays
Prince Hector, who defends the titular city against the Greek tribes led by
Achilles (Brad Pitt). "Hector is a noble, great character and one everyone
should enjoy," Bana said. "If they don't, I won't act again." He added that
the demands of playing Hector were different from any other role. "It was a
weird mix," he said. "It had to have classical drama, that side being super
important, and then combine that with playing Chuck Norris as the warrior."

Monday 25th August 2003: Troy Update:
Dark rumblings from the Troy set in Mexico with rumours of the project being vastly over budget, and schedule. The project was supposed to finish filming at the end of July, rumours even had the production wanting to continue filming until October a whole TWELVE weeks over schedule. Warner's were even rumoured to be contemplating pulling the project. Personally I think that bit isn't true, what studio invests that amount of money and kills the project? None.
Monday 11th August 2003: Troy Update:
A report from an extra on Troy has just been sent in "I just got back from
cabo mexico today from the set of Troy" and the set is incredible! There
is a LOT of bulgarian men around their! They are huge and muscle bound,
hired to be on the front lines to make the army look realistic. I was
fortunate to become good friends with one of them and it is true...they
make very little $ a day. I was on the set yesterday (8/8/03) and they are
now getting paid around $32 a day...while the local extras are making $50 a
day! The food WAS bad...then it got good...now its average! anyway...the
walls of troy are huge and from the top the view is beautiful...the
costumes are elaborate and the armys look incredibly real! When standing
there in formation with full costume (spear, shield, armor, ect) and you
see everyone else..its as if you are ACTUALLY there, in THAT time and its
the most awesome thing i have ever experianced! The days are LOOOONG (14
hour days) and the sun is scorchingly hot...but to be a part of this huge
production is priceless and worth it ALL!"
Saturday 9th August 2003: Troy Update:
I print this unedited " So I just got back from Cabo, Mexico at the Troy filming... Bulgarian men everywhere. The only probably is that they are being taken advantage of by Warner Bros. and half of them were sent back to Bulgaria for holding a strike because they were making $12 (U.S. a day!!!!). After the strike they made an additional $10 a day. Although their hotel and a couple of meals are being paid for, one can not live on $22 a day in Cabo!!! They feel they were mislead and we feel so badly for them. I believe they are working over 12 hours a day, 6 days a week!! Not to mention that they were told that $12 U.S. dollars goes a long way in Cabo before they committed!"

Just received word that filming on Troy will take place in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico next week. The sets have been built on dunes by the sea. Thanks to Nydia!
Wednesday 17th July 2003: Troy Update:
Producers of Trojan War epic Troy have reportedly had to hire a body double
for Brad Pitt because his legs are too skinny. Pitt is playing Achilles in
the film and has to wear a leather skirt and knee-high boots. But parts of
the £110million movie are being re-shot using a muscle-bound stand-in with
"thighs like tree trunks." A fellow actor, who appears in a sword-fighting
scene with Pitt, said: "Brad's a great guy but close up his legs were just
too thin." Pitt's skinny legs were exposed when director Wolfgang Petersen
began shooting in Malta. A casting agent pointed out that it's quite common
for body doubles to be used in filming and that Pitt might even have asked
for a body double himself.
Wednesday 9th July 2003: Troy Update:
Brad Pitt has been talking about Troy " "I did tons of reading [to prepare
for his role as Achilles], not only investing in The Iliad but everyone's
dissection of the characters. Ours is not a direct interpretation, but you
have it to mind. The work has been done for me in a way." He then talked
about his costume "Those Greeks, they liked the mini. Not only that, but
apparently they fought with all the tackle hanging out. They didn't mind it
a bit. This is not Caligula, so they got it strapped down."
Rose Byrne has also been talking about her role in the movie "It's only
about 10 scenes. I really love the role, but the story is not about my
character. ... I've got this tiny part in this big Brad Pitt movie, and
everyone here thinks I'm playing Sally to Brad Pitt's Harry. I'm not, and
I'm constantly having to say that."
Wednesday 9th July 2003: Troy Update:
George Camilleri who was an extra on the filming for Troy has died two
weeks after an accident on set. He had jumped from a ship coming into shore
and suffered a bad leg injury, two weeks later he suffered a blood clot on
the leg that brought on a fatal heart attack. His wife is suing Warners who
strongly deny negligence.
Tuesday 8th July 2003: Troy Update:
Cast and crew working on Troy are mourning the death of movie extra George
Camilleri, who has died following an accident on the set. A former
bodybuilding champion, Camilleri suffered a leg injury two weeks ago while
leaping from a ship during one of the film's battle sequences. While
recuperating from his injury, Camilleri apparently suffered a blood clot in
the leg which induced a fatal heart attack. His widow, Josephine, is seeking
compensation from the film's backers, Warner Bros.

Tuesday 24th June 2003: Troy Update:
Just received the following info on a very interesting development being used for the making of Troy..VIRTUAL STUNTMEN..read on "The first ever Virtual Stuntmen will be used in Troy, the
Hollywood Iliad adaptation directed by Wolfgang Petersen,
starring Brad Pitt (Fight Club, Seven) as Achilles.
Leading visual effects house The Moving Picture Company
chose virtual humans developed by NaturalMotion, an Oxford
University spin-off company, to help create ultra-realistic action
scenes for the movie.
NaturalMotions software endorphin, born out of Oxford
University Zoology research into human motion, uniquely creates
virtual characters whose bodies react exactly like real humans to
whatever forces are applied to them offering infinite and totally
realistic reactions to, for example, explosions, falls, punches or
whatever else an action scene might require.
endorphin uses NaturalMotions Active Character Technology,
which simulates the actors brain as well as their body. The
virtual actors learn how to move and react using neural networks
and artificial evolution. They sense and react to the environment
and can be directed just like real actors.
Torsten Reil, CEO of NaturalMotion, was doing a Zoology
DPhil in Zoology at Oxford, studying the neurobiology of human
motion through computer modelling, when he and his colleagues
realised the commercial possibilities of their work. Founded in
2001 with Colm Massey and David Raubenheimer, the
company looks set to hit new levels of success with this kind of
Hollywood collaboration. Were proud that MPC have chosen
our technology for this project, said Torsten. endorphin is a
powerful piece of software, and with MPCs track record,
were looking forward to some incredible scenes.
Julian Mann of The Moving Picture Company said: "endorphin
gives us the ability to identify stunt requirements and generate
motion capture in a matter of minutes. The data from endorphin
is the perfect complement to traditional motion capture data.
endorphin stunt men never sleep, they never need an ambulance
and they quite happily work after being decapitated."
Torsten Reil: We spent a long time teaching our virtual actors
the necessary skills for this. Its a great feeling seeing them used
in such an impressive project.
Shooting for Troy has started in April. The film will be in
cinemas in 2004."
Monday 23rd June 2003: Troy Update:
Eric Bana has been talking about Troy and Hulk 2 'I haven't disfigured Brad Pitt just yet, It's quite literally the role of a lifetime. He's the ultimate warrior. We've been working out like crazy. I have to be strong because Achilles kicks my ass. I guess we will do one. It might sound silly, but I really haven't thought about it. It's hard to think Hulk when you're in the middle of 'The Iliad.' "

Here's some more info on the Troy filming. Locations will include Hal Far, Fort Ricasoli, where the city of Troy has been constructed, Mtahleb, Ghajn
Tuffieha, Golden Bay, Mellieha, Cirkewwa and Dwejra. For the non-
Maltese readers out there those are places where there are plenty of
run down/ancient Greek-looking buildings. Troy is being filmed over a total of 100 days and has already shot for two weeks in the UK, continuing in Mexico after filming in Malta is completed on July 4. The film was originally meant to be shooting in Malta for six weeks, but was extended to nine.

Friday 2nd May 2003: Troy Update:
Writer David Benioff has been talking about his adaptation of The Iliad for Troy "My Hector wouldn't gloat over some young guy's dead body, and you don't want to see babies being thrown into the walls of Troy. I'm kind of resigned to the idea that the classicists are not going to like it"
Thursday 1st May 2003: Troy Update:

Troy, which starts filming in Malta next week, was being tried and tested in

Lori has just sent us the following update on the filming for Troy " Cabo has been confirmed as the alternate spot for filming rather than Morrocco. Warner Bros reps have already been down, but I haven't been able to meet up with anyone as yet. I live in Cabo and own a wonderful, luxurious B & B (Bed and Breakfast) my sister in law is Marilyn Wilson, previously married to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys." Thanks to Lori Pedersen Harrison!
Friday 11th April 2003: Troy Update:
German-born, Paris-based actress Diane Kruger has been tapped to play Helen
of Troy in Troy for director Wolfgang Petersen. Principal photography is
scheduled to begin on April 22 in England. Brad Pitt, Eric Bana, Orlando
Bloom, Julie Christie, Peter O'Toole and Garrett Hedlund are already on
board. "Diane is not only a stunning beauty, but also a gifted actress with
tremendous emotional depth and presence," Petersen said. "The role of Helen
is charged with the grandeur of history and legend. I am confident that
Diane has the charisma and artistry that this compelling character demands."
Monday 31st March 2003: Troy Update:
Just received the following information on Troy> The writter of Troy is David Benioff.Release Date: may 21, 2004 Distributor: Warner Bros. production company: Radiant pictures and Village roadshow pictures cast: : Brad Pitt (Achilles), Eric Bana (Prince Hector of Troy), Orlando Bloom (Prince Paris of Troy), Peter O'Toole (King Priam of Troy), Sean Bean (Odysseus), Saffron Burrows (Andromache), Rose Byrne (Briseis), Julie Christie (Thetis), Brian Cox (Agamemnon), Brendan Gleeson, Garrett Hedlund (Patroclus); other cast not announced yet. the role of Agamemnon may have gone to Ciaran Hinds Claire Forlani (possibly Helen?), Michael Clarke Duncan (possibly Ajax?) and Emilio Estevez are also being considered for roles Brian Cox is set to play Agamemnon, King of the Myceneans. Odysseus (Bean) is the king of Ithica.
Julie Christie as Thetis, the mother of Achilles who dipped him in water held by the heel, thus creating his legendary weakness. Saffron Burrows will play Andromache, Hector's wife, and complete newcomer Garrett Hedlund, just a month off the bus (or plane or car or whatever) from Minnesota, has landed the role of Patroclus, Achilles' teenage cousin. The highest profile role yet to be cast is Helen herself, who will be played by a complete unknown like Hedlund, in what is perceived as being a career-launching opportunity.
based upon: The Trojan War, as depicted in "The Iliad", the epic Greek poem by Homer.
In 1193 B.C., Prince Paris (Bloom) of Troy stole the beautiful Greek woman, Helen, away from her husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta, setting the two nations at war with each other, as the Greeks began a bloody siege of Troy using their entire armada, led by Achilles (Pitt), that lasted over a decade... (Bana plays Hector, the leader of the Trojan forces; Byrne plays Briseis, a Trojan slave and cousin of Hector and Paris who is given to Achilles as a gift.)
filming: Production is scheduled to start on April 22nd, 2003 on sets in London and Malta on a budget of $100+ million. The production will then move on to the battle sequences in July and August of 2003, at an as-yet-undetermined location that may be Spain, Baja Mexico or Morocco (which was the original chosen location, but is now being reconsidered due to concerns about difficulties that may arise there during a possible war in the Middle East). Principle production should be wrapped up by September, 2003 or so.
genre: Action, Eye Candy, Historical, War
Thanks to Lily for all the extra info!
Thursday 20th March 2003: Troy Update:
Writer David Benioff has been talking about Troy "Troy is an adaptation of the Trojan War myth in its entirety, not The Iliad alone. The Iliad begins with the quarrel between Achilles and Agamemnon over the slave girl Briseis, nine years into the war. The equivalent scene occurs halfway through my script. Meanwhile, The Iliad ends after Priam returns from Achilles' shelter with his grim cargo - long before the construction of the Trojan Horse, and a good twenty pages before my script ends. This is a massive story that we're trying to tell in two-and-a-half hours. The narrative is crammed with some of literature's most intriguing characters: Achilles, Hector, Helen, Paris, Priam, Odysseus, Agamemnon, Patroclus, etc. All these characters have to emerge on screen as fully realized human beings. The battle scenes have to mirror the epic confrontations Homer described. The journey of the thousand ships from Greece to Troy has to be depicted. Everything takes times, and we're not making a twelve-hour miniseries. We're not making a trilogy of three-hour movies."
Thursday 6th March 2003: Troy Update:
Brad Pitt is in London to prepare for his role as Achilles Hollywood epic
Troy, based on Homer's Illiad, but he is still without a leading lady. With
shooting due to start in a matter of days, casting agents have still not
found a Helen of Troy to star opposite him. The woman whose face "launched a thousand ships" is meant to be one of the most beautiful to have lived. One well-placed Hollywood insider claims the favourite to take the part is Claire Forlani, while Ukrainian supermodel Milla Jovovich is also hotly tipped for the role. Also in the running, according to bookmakers Ladbrokes, are Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Julia Roberts.
Thursday 6th March 2003: Troy Update:
Eric Bana has been talking about Troy "When I was a kid Spartacus was my favorite movie, and in Troy I play a very Kirk Douglas like character, so it's great. To go from Bill Bixby to Kirk Douglas overnight is just mind blowing for me. To think 10 years ago I was up and down the country playing crummy little gigs to pay the rent, and now I truly am the king of kings (laughs). Wolfgang Petersen has really given me the leverage to control this character in a much greater way than i would have expected and to do that alongside the likes of Brad Pitt and Peter O Toole, you know, it says how much faith he has in me as an Actor, so I must be doing something right"
Monday 3rd March 2003: Troy Update:
More casting news on Troy with the word that Garrett Hedlund has been signed up to star as Patroclus, Achilles teenage cousin who has warrior aspirations. Filming is due to start on 22nd April.
Tuesday 25th February 2003: Troy Update:
Wolfgang Petersen has added to the cast of Troy Peter O' Toole and Julie Christie. It has also been announced that the movie will start filming on the 22nd April in London. He had this to say about the news "We start shooting in April, and then we will move on to Malta. We won't be shooting those final battle scenes until July or August. If things are going on in the world that make Morocco impossible, we have explored Mexico and Spain. Of course, we will take care of the security and safety of everybody involved, but the movie will happen and there won't be a week of delay. Everything is in place, cast included."
Monday 9th February 2003: Troy Update:
The production of Troy has had to move to Baja, California due to the possibility of war against Iraq. The shoot will take six months and they are thought to be using the Los Cabos resort for scenes.
Friday 7th February 2003: Troy Update:
Rumours are circulating that Peter O' Toole has been signed up for a role in Troy.
Tuesday 4th February 2003: Troy Update:

Monday 13th January 2003: Troy Update:
Wolfgang Petersen is in negotiations with Rose Byrne to star in Troy as Briseis a Trojan slave girl who is given to Achilles who becomes fond of her, she is then captured by the enemy and Achilles rage is unleashed on the enemy. Filming will start on Troy in the spring in the UK, Malta and Morocco.
Saturday 16th November 2002: Troy Update:
Casting notices are out to find the lead female role for Wolfgang Petersens Troy. They are looking for someone who is "20 on a scale of 1-10" (whatever the hell that is). She will play Helen who in the Iliad was said to be the most beautiful woman in the ancient world.
Wednesday 13th November 2002: Troy Update:
News reaches us that Orlando Bloom has joined Brad Pitt and Eric Bana in Wolfgang Petersen's Troy. Bloom will play Paris, who steals the beautiful Helen away from her husband, Menelaus, the king of Sparta, and prompts the war between Greece and Troy. SHooting kicks off in London, Malta and Morocco early next year.
Monday 11th November 2002: Troy Update:
Claire Forlani, Emilio Estevez, and Michael Clarke Duncan are all in talks to star in Wolfgang Petersen's epic Troy movie, according to Access Hollywood.
Tuesday 29th October 2002: Troy Update:
TNMC have posted a script review of Troy, the upcoming Wolfgang Petersen film starring Brad Pitt and Eric Bana. "This will be one heck of an interesting and I suspect successful picture. Wolfgang Peterson will direct and Brad Pitt will square off against Eric Bana. Theyve got a good early draft of a script from which to work so the omens are good." Hit the link for the full review, however be warned as there are spoilers.
Monday 30th September 2002: Troy Update:
Word has reached us of the planned budget for the upcoming Troy movie directed by Wolfgang Petersen that will star Brad Pitt. It comes in at a hefty $140 million, filming starts next April for 170 days, and the running time coming in at two and three quarter hours.
Tuesday 17th September 2002: Troy Update:

Tuesday 13th August 2002: Peterson Will Make 'Troy' Before 'Bat Vs Supe'
I touched upon this in our coming soon update earlier on, but here, i'll post more details. Oh, and if you didn't hear earlier on, Wolfgang Peterson will bring Batman Vs Superman to the big screen, but probably not until 2005 or 2006. And why? Well, he's decided to go and make an epic entitled 'Troy', also at Warner Brothers.
He hopes to shoot the film in the summer of 2003, which means by the time that he has finished editing the movie, which will be mid-2004 at least, Batman Vs Superman won't get going for another TWO years. That means that we won't get it until at least the summer of 2005, most probably not until the summer of 2006.
Here's what he told Variety.
"Of these two projects I have developed at Warner Bros., I had hoped to make 'Troy' first and am pleased that the scheduling worked out that way," Petersen said. "I'm looking forward to directing 'Batman vs. Superman' in the future."
