Latino Review have bagged a bunch of new images from Eminem's debut movie, 8 Mile. I have been hearing nothing but good things about this movie and in particular Eminem's performance. Here are a few of those pics

Wednesday 23rd October 2002: 8 Mile Update:
Aint It Cool News have posted a review of Curtis Hanson's 8 Mile starring Eminem. "As surprising as Curtis Hanson directing an Eminem movie is Eminem’s acting in a Curtis Hanson film. Eminem is a good performer, he doesn’t come off too likeable but he’s got his act worked out, yet onstage ability doesn’t always translate well in onscreen skill, in Eminem’s case it has, as he certainly seems adept to big screen". 19th July 2002: 8 Mile Update:
From what i've seen of 8 Mile, the Curtis Hanson directed Eminem debut, i've been suitably impressed. The trailer looked pretty cool, and so did the talent. But you cannot tell how good a film will be just by viewing the trailer. You've gotta see the movie. Aint It Cool News scored the first review.

OK, Eminem – He IS Jimmy Smith, Jr. aka Rabbit. “Rabbit?! What the hell kinda name is that?” I know , I know. But take that for what you will. Whatever the motivation, though, the guy everybody loves to hate, can act. And he is pretty fucking phenomenal. The “Slim Shady” persona as we know it would not carry a whole movie and as mentioned above, I was surprised to hardly see it. He fought, he raged, he got angry – but we saw the motivation, we saw him go through shit, and we saw it all build. We saw what went into the lyrics... and that brings me to why he was probably so great in the role. He’ll admit to his weaknesses. He’ll call himself a white-boy pussy. And, in this role, he shows so much vulnerability that I forgot that I was watching the man of controversy himself. Trust me on this. He’s GOOD.

This film could be good you know! Check out the full review at AICN.

14th May 2002: 8 Mile Update:
The film has had its release dealyed until November 2002. The reason? Well, it seems Eminem is unhappy with the soundtrack and would like more time to work on it. However, Movieweb has always listed 8 Mile's release as being November..

Just received a rather interesting email from an anonomous scooper that provides us with some more information from the Eminem starrer 8 Mile;

"Local rapper T.C.Real is making alot of noise on the set. Everyone from Assistant Directors-to X-tras have now heard about this guy. Just check out T.C.Real's moments of stardom in the party store scene were he is playing a drunk, or just whatch him pop his collar in the climax of the movie, the battle scene. T.C.Real has been on the Detroit rap scene for a while, at the Michigan's 2nd Rap Achievment Award Show, T.C.Real was nominated and won best Up and Coming male rap Artist. Also Curtis Hason has let it be known that the premiere will be here in Detroit."

The Untitled Detroit Project now has a title, 8 Mile, named after Detroit's 8 Mile Road, which is the division between the city's white and black districts. Kim Basinger has teamed up with her LA Confindential director Curtis Hanson to play Eminem's Mum in the film, but studio bosses are now dismissing the rumour that this will be based on the life of the controversial rapper. This will be a totally different film. Check out the two stills below from the Detroit set.

Also cast in the film is Brittany Murphy, who has appeared in recent movies Cherry Falls, Girl Interrupted, Riding In Cars With Boys and the upcoming Don't Say A Word. She will play a character named Alex. Mekhi Phifer (Clockers, 'O') will also appear as 'Future'.

Producers are heading for a Summer 2002 release.

It had to happen sooner or later but this is not another film that's being put together for the sake of quickly making a Hollywood studio millions of the back of a current 'hot' star. Sure the thought must be at the back of their minds, but Eminem has a pretty colourful past and after watching a documentary of the controversial rapper's life on MTV the other week, I actually thought to myself, hey, this would make one hell of a movie.

There's even an Oscar winning director attached too at the moment in the form of Curtis Hanson (LA Confidential and Wonderboys). The film will be distributed by Universal and produced by (surprisingly) Imagine Entertainment.

Eminem is to play himself in the film, although his character may go by another name. Hardcore rap outfit D12, of which Eminem is also a member, will also appear.

A Detroit shoot is penciled in for September of this year and Universal will open a production office in Detroit sometime during August. The 'Untitled Detroit Project' as it is currently known will be the first major movie since Out Of Sight to be shot in the Motor City.

Both Eminem and Dr. Dre are to write at least four new tracks for the movie's soundtrack which will be released early next year. Eminem will also re-record some his previous hits.
