Friday 6th February 2004: Van Helsing Update:
Some viewers were upset after a "Van Helsing" clip aired during the US Superbowl, and although Universal Pictures assured CBS that their upcoming monster feature is rated a family-friendly PG-13, many parents called CBS to complain about the terrifying images their children were exposed to.
Universal subsequenty issued this press release :
"UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif., Feb. 4 -- "Van Helsing" is a motion picture adventure that features imaginative use of fantasy characters such as Dracula, The Frankenstein Monster and The Wolf Man -- characters that have been staples of movies and popular culture for more than 60 years. Writer/director Stephen Sommers has established himself as a filmmaker who creates entertainment enjoyed by audiences of all ages. The tone and content of "Van Helsing" have been designed to continue that tradition and fit well within the Motion Picture Association of America parameters established for a PG-13 rating. The 60-second advertisement for the film that ran during the Super Bowl was approved by the MPAA. While the spot contained images of fanged fantasy creatures, it did not feature any blood or gore, nor any depiction of realistic graphic violence ..."

Tuesday 16th September 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Universal is to make a TV drama series inspired by writer/director Stephen Sommer's monster film Van Helsing, which is due out next May. The network has given Universal Network Television a pilot commitment for a drama that, while not a spin-off or sequel, will be set in the same universe as the feature film. Sommers will write the pilot script and executive produce the series with partner and longtime editor Bob Ducsay. And, in another connection to the movie, the potential series will likely be shot on the same 19th-century village set that Universal built in Prague and used for Van Helsing. Though the series will be set in the same 19th century vein as the film, Van Helsing will not be a character in Transylvania. Instead, the series will be a character-driven soap opera and the central figure will be a young cowboy from Texas who's pressed into duty and becomes the sheriff in a town where oddities abound.

Friday 16th May 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about next year’s hotly anticipated Van
Helsing. “In the original Dracula story, Van Helsing is a 60-year-old Dutch
professor who's been into the occult and ends up being the Dracula hunter,”
he said. “But this is the 34-year-old version of him at the beginning, a
kind of mercenary of the Catholic church who is sent to kill any possessed
soul. So his mission is to go to Transylvania and find out what's going on
with Dracula and take him out. But he encounters a lot of monsters along the
way."

Monday 12th May 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about Van Helsing "I fight Frankenstein,
Wolfman, Dracula and a few other surprises are thrown in, It's a huge
movie. Don't get me wrong. 'X 2' was a big movie, but 'Van Helsing,' my
God. The sets, the action pieces--it's out of control. It's like I walked
into 'Indiana Jones. The village peasants were extras. We literally went
into the shelters to give them work, but the problem was their English was
nonexistent. So imagine this scene where I'm on wire. I have to run, run,
run and then jump and grab onto Kate Beckinsale's legs and go flying
through the air before I get flipped. Once I launch into this move, I
cannot stop."

Tuesday 22nd April 2003: Van Helsing Update:
News reaches us today of a key scene in Van Helsing that will involve a lareg fight scene in Frankenstein's lag that will involve lots of explosions and flying scientific apparatus. Word is that there may be three different endings with one for each of the creatures that will segue neatly into a sequel.

Thursday 17th April 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about Van Helsing again "I'll tell you, man, it is huge — the sets, the costumes. I just saw a little trailer of it cut together. We showed it to the whole crew [and] everyone was so jazzed. It looks amazing.I feel like I'm in 'Indiana Jones'. That was my favorite movie as a kid, and I really feel like I've walked into one of those movies. [It's got] swashbuckling, but it's got a darkness to it, but it's still funny. And the look of it — I think it has a style to it that I've never really seen before. And I think the story is very intricate."

Tuesday 15th April 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about Van Helsing today "Van Helsing is a
character in Bram Stokers Dracula which is the inspiration for this movie.
In that he's like a professor, an aficionado on the occult and Dracula and
he comes in and kind of saves the day, sort of a Dracula hunter. So this is
the younger more adventures version of him, and this film is, halfway
through it-it's looking amazing. It's extraordinary to be in it, it's like
being in an Indiana Jones movie, and it's amazing. The sets are huge, it
looks beautiful. There's a romance in it with Kate Beckinsale, and she
plays a great character, and there's him going to Transylvania to hunt down
Dracula. Along the way he encounters a few other monsters that he didn't
expect to see. It's really, I'm really happy with it, it's looking
fantastic. We're shooting in Europe and L.A., we had to move to LA. We
start shooting here tomorrow. I have to fly back to Prague to do some
riding on horses and stuff like that. I've seen the originals and I loved
them, and the originals of Frankenstein, Dracula, of course read all the
books, and Wolf Man, the original Wolf Man which is a classic. I haven't
seen a lot of the later ones. I'm a big horror movie fan, but never the
monster movie theme. But I think this one is, the story is really great and
it's intricate enough, and of course Stephen Sommers and Allen Daviau are
shooting it, it looks amazing. I think this going to offer a lot to the
fans of monster movies. I think they will like it."

Tuesday 18th March 2003: Van Helsing Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about Van Helsing 'This is kind of the younger and more adventurous swashbuckling version of Van Helsing, 'who is, for want of a better word, a mercenary for the Catholic Church who is out there killing or dealing with possessed souls of all different shapes and sizes. Right at the beginning of the movie you meet Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, which introduces my character. So he's out there dealing with these rogue demons that have taken over bodies. And as it turns out, Dracula, whose existence has been known to the Church in Transylvania, is kind of starting to get out of control, and so
they send Van Helsing, on a big mission to find him. Anna, Kate Beckinsale's character, is the youngest and final member of the family whose job it is
to try and track Dracula for 400 years."
