Sadie has been in touch with the following info on Vanity Fair "Mira Nair has now finished filming Vanity Fair after her last shoot in the western state of Rajasthan."

Thursday 4th September 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Anon has just sent in the following report from the filming of Vanity Fair
"Filming at Hatfield House. Filming was on a day in mid August 2003. At a
bridge in the grounds of the House, with a lake on one side.
Becky (Reese W.) alights frantically from a carriage, with Amelia in tow.
The detritus and fallout of battle is all around, in a state of panic.
Soldiers, horses, cannon.

Amelia is concerned for her friend's safety and screams at her to get back
on the carriage. But Becky can only think of her beau, who is missing in
the heat of battle, and shouts his name. "Where are you!??" She moves
across the bridge, shouting his name. He is to be her meal ticket for the
rest of her days, and she is motivated by avarice as much as love.
The bridge is smeared with muck. The end of the battle is near, it is the
battle of Waterloo, and extras dressed as soldiers are running across the
bridge, with horses and cannon coming in the opposite direction.
Reese W. heavily pregnant during the shoot, and was probably counselled not
to get histrionic enough to damage the baby she's carrying."

Tuesday 5th August 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Adrian has just sent this in " We believe that filming is currently taking place opposite our offices in Rochester Kent of Vanity Fair.Filming is at Chatham Historic Dockyard."

Tuesday 5th August 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Stuart has just sent this in " We are currently in an office opposite the Historic Dockyard and Chatham in Kent.We are on one side of the river Medway and it looks like they are filming scenes for Vanity on the other. We have called a number on the side of one of the trucks belonging to a company called On-Set and they have said that they believe their units are there for the purposes of filming Vanity Fair, although she was a receptionist rather than a spokesperson for the company."

Monday 28th July 2003: Vanity Fair Update:

Thursday 17th July 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Just received the following update on the Vanity Fair filming "last week (Thursday)was filming in Potters Bar, North London at the house of Lord Steyne (Gabriel Byrne). Reese Witherspoon came on set about noon and seemed chirpy (no sign of morning sickness!) The scene involved Becky Sharp's acceptance into Society, after a dinner hosted by Lord Steyne. Filming takes place in Hampton Court Park this week (Waterloo, I think) then later at Luton for 'The Duchess of Richmond's Ball', where Becky makes off with her best friend's husband! Lively stuff!!" Thanks to Anon!

Thursday 17th July 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Just received the following info on the Vanity Fair filming "For two days of the VF shoot, at Hampton Court Palace; the Monday and the Tuesday. Very hot days, and some people were uncomfortable in the heavier costumes, but the crew and caterers looked after us very well. It took alot of time to set up between takes, but that was to be expected.

On both afternoons, the ice-pop carts had their contents bought up by the movie producers, to be distributed to cast and crew. Major kudos for that to the producers.

Ms. Witherspoon was gracious and demure on set, and, for the most part, did not need to be moved to the shade between takes. She is obviously pregnant. She lifted her skirts the better to cool herself, at one point, displaying nice, toned legs! The scene we were doing involved Becky Sharp (RW) talking to Mr. Darlington about the best way to escape from Brussels, as the arrival of Napoleons forces is imminent. We extra artistes run around in the background in a blind panic to gather possessions/children/animals for escape or hiding. This scene was filmed at the Cow Gate Courtyard, in the Hampton Court Palace itself. The cobblestones were a little uncomfortable to run on in the light costume shoes, and turning on your ankle was a real prospect.

The next scene, in that same area, is where, after the defeat of Napoleon at Waterloo, the victorious Redcoat army arrives into the courtyard to scenes of wild jubilation. At first it was hard for the Assistant Directors to motivate the extras into being particularyly energetic, and to get into the spirit of the scene, but everyone soon dug deep and got on with it. The sun going behind the clouds, very occasionally, and noisy planes out of Heathrow held us hostage a bit, but it all got done.

The heat was not helped by the atmospheric props that comprised about 6 woodburning grates which were lit for each take.

Mira Nair stayed, for the most part, behind the monitors, emerging only to take control of specific nuances in a scene. For example, when she wanted two young kids to rush up to the victorious soldiers as they come to a halt in the courtyard. More visible was the amiable cinematographer, Declan Quinn. There was good morale on set, but it would have been nice to have had an ice machine for the drinking water. Especially for the more elderly artistes, of whom there were quite a few.

None of the other major principals were there for those scenes. No Hoskins, Byrne, or Broadbent.

I had heard that, as Ms. Nair was being transported from her base unit to the location in the palace in her Mercedes, some minion tried to hitch a ride. A steely glare from the Indian Director let the hapless chap know that his prescence in the car was NOT required, and he was lucky not to have been fired for such presumptuousness." Thanks to Anon!

Thursday 19th June 2003: Vanity Fair Update:

Monday 9th June 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Reese Witherspoon has been talking about how being pregnant has affected
filming on Vanity Fair. When she first told Director Mira Nair that she was
pregnant it was decided to write into the screenplay that her character was
pregnant. "We've had a couple of scenes where my stomach was peeking out a
bit, but we've found solutions. The Oscar Wilde was a very traditional
telling of a classic play but this is different. Mira Nair's interpretation
is very avant garde and really cool. I think people are going to be very
surprised. It's like nothing you'd expect from an English period film.
There's a lot of sensuality, and things which would normally be seen as
rather forward."

Thursday 15th June 2003: Vanity Fair Update:
Director Mira Nair has signed up Natasha Little to star as Lady Jane Sheepshanks in Vanity Fair. The film which is financed by Focus Features is produced by Janette Day, Donna Gigliotti and Lydia Dean Pilcher. The new script by Matthew Faulk and Mark Skeet was rewritten by Oscar winner Julian Fellowes. Also starring are Eileen Atkins, Jim Broadbent, Gabriel Byrne, Romola Garai, Bob Hoskins, Rhys Ifans, Geraldine McEwan, James Purefroy and Jonathan Rhys Meyers.

Friday 29th May 2003: Whiteout Update:
Reese Witherspoon has been talking about a pile of her in development projects to Moviehole

WhiteOut :
"Well “Whiteout” is still in development, so I can’t really tell you much about it, but I’m a U.S marshal, Carrie Stetko, and I have to uncover the first murder ever in the Antarctic, just before the sun sets for six months. Carrie has to catch him before the sun sets, or she would be stuck with him for six months in darkness!"
Vanity Fair :
“Vanity Fair” is a 1820's period piece, where I play Becky Sharp ( a lower-class girl who uses her wit and guile to make it through 1820's London society, as the effects of the Battle of Waterloo are felt by her adopted family, the parents of Amelia, her best friend from boarding school. When Becky is unable to get Amelia's brother to ask for her hand in marriage, she is forced to become a governess at a remote country house, where she is courted by both the elderly Sir Pitt Crawley, and his roguish younger son, Rawdon Crawley .We’ve already started filming this. It’s a good movie, so far!"
Tennis/Wimbledon movie :
"Well, the movie is in development, and I’m not too sure about it at the moment..I go and play tennis sometimes, with my trainer! But not for the movie, for fun"
Next :
"At the moment I’m thinking of doing “Daughter of the Queen of Sheba”, and “Walk the line”, who I play June Carter Cash, along with Joaquin Phoenix. Unfortunately June has recently passed away, so I would like to send my deepest sympathy to her husband, and her family."
Legally Blonde 2 :
"Well filming is all wrapped up, and its out on July 2nd - everyone go and see it! - And it’s a very funny Movie and I’m not a funny person. It’s a good script, Elle is in Washington, D.C, and has put her wedding on hold, to stop animals being tested at a lab by a cosmetic company, who include bruisers birth parents, who she wants at the wedding. She arrives at the watergate, and gets help from an old door man – played by Bob Newhart - and he teaches her the way the political system works. Some of the old cast are back again, like Luke Wilson and Jennifer Coolidge"
Sweet Home Alabama 2 :
"It’s the first I’ve heard of a sequel"
