Friday 3rd October 2003: The Vega Brothers Update:
I must admit I thought this project was deader than Michael Madsen's career before Taranatino gave him a role in Kill Bill, but this week Madsen has been talking up the project again "I think for a while it wasn’t going to happen, but I think that he came up with a good concept of an idea for actually making it work. Now I’m pretty sure that it’s going to happen."

Tuesday 22nd July 2003: Vega Brothers Update:
Guess we aint gonna see that Vega Brothers movie after all QT has revealed "“I don't think that I can really do it as a movie anymore. I think Michael Madsen and John Travolta just got a little too old to do a prequel to a movie they did ten years ago".

Wednesday 20th May 2003: The Vega Brothers Update:
A scooper at Dark Horizons has revealed the The Vega Brothers may still be a goer of a project "I auditioned for a role and got chatting with the lovely casting director who indicated the "vega brothers" movie is going ahead. She says it will be huge because its a huge ensemble, and says it's going to have Travolta in it, Madsen, Samuel L. Jackson and all the Tarantino regulars - but a lot of roles available for young women, because it's set in bars and nightclubs, hence, strippers, barmaids, waitress roles will be available. Tarantino wants to do it later this year. I would so love to be a part of this but she said nearly every male role is a 'name'".

Tuesday 27th August 2002 : Vega Brothers Update:
Michael Madsen talked today about the much rumoured and talked about Vega Brothers movie
"Quentin and I have talked about doing a film about the Vega brothers. He has the idea in his head, where Travolta and I would play club owners in Amsterdam. I do see the film being made. He just has to finish work on Kill Bill and the World War II movie he's working on, so it won't be for another 2 or 3 years, but I do see it happening then."

Quentin Tarantino did an interview with French channel Canal + (he's over in Cannes this week) where he confirmed that plans for The Vega Brothers movie have been cancelled. Oh well.

Update 8/4/01
: Page added today. Archive pages over at Coming Attractions report that The Vega Brothers has always been on the cards, right back to 1996 when the idea was put to both Madsen and Travolta (who both loved it). The film came up recently in New York Magazine that both stars have signed on the dotted line to reprise their roles and that Tarantino will start work on the film after Kill Bill and WWII flick Glorious Bastards.
