Here's some promo images for the powerful new movie from Mike Leigh called vera Drake. It's already snapped up the Golden Lion at Venice and has been winning rave reviews for Imelda Staunton's performance as Drake an abortionosist in 50's england whose actions cause huge problems for her family. It's UK release date has been set as 7th January 2005.

Tuesday 20th April 2004: Vera Drake Update:
New Line Cinema have picked up the US rights to Vera Drake from UK director Mike Leigh. The film paints an extraordinary portrait of a selfless woman who is completely devoted to, and loved by, her working class family. She spends her days doting on them and caring for her sick neighbor and elderly mother. However, she also secretly visits women and helps them induce miscarriages for unwanted pregnancies. Imelda Staunton stars while Jim Broadbent, Heather Craney and Phillip Davis appear in supporting roles. It was produced by Simon Channing-Williams and executive produced by Gail Egin, Robert Jones, Duncan Reid and Alain Sarde. The film was financed by the UK Film Council, Ingenious Media and Studio Canal.
