Friday 13th June 2003: Viagra Falls Update: News reaches us today that two film companies are
both fighting over the rights to make a movie based
on the town in Ireland where Viagra is manufactured
by Pfizer. And why is this a subject for a movie? The
town has a booming pregnancy rate, that may or may not
have something to do with the effects of the product
they are manufacturing! The town has a tiny population
of just 1200 a resident of the town had this to say
about the rumour of the tablet's effects on the town
"It's one of those things -- whether it's true
or not, people might come here out of curiosity. But
basically it's just a good laugh." A Pfizer spokesman
dismissed as "a puff of smoke" the notion
that fumes from its factory could be affecting the populace."It's
made under the strictest supervision of the U.S. FDA
(Food & Drug Administration) and the Irish Environmental
Protection Agency. There can't be any kind of emissions,"
he said, adding wryly: "But no one wants to know
that."
