When
a Stranger Calls Premise/Synopsis: Originally
followed Carol Kane as a baby-sitter who is tormented
by a series of ominous phone calls until a compulsive
cop (Charles Durning) is brought on the scene to apprehend
the psychotic killer. Seven years later, however, the
nightmare begins again when the madman returns to mercilessly
haunt Kane, now a wife and mother.

Camilla Belle ("The Ballad of Jack and
Rose") has been cast as the lead in Screen
Gems' remake of "When a Stranger Calls"
to be directed by Simon West ("Tomb Raider").
Jake Wade Wall wrote the remake of the 1979
Columbia Pictures cult horror film, which starred
Carol Kane as a high school student traumatized
while babysitting. A caller repeatedly asks,
"Have you checked the children lately?"
She learns that the calls are coming from inside
the house. Belle will star in the role played
by Kane. Filming begins in mid-July.

Simon West ("Lara Croft: Tomb Raider")
is in talks to direct a remake of the cult horror
flick "When a Stranger Calls" for
Sony's Screen Gems. Jake Wadewall is writing
the script for the remake of the 1979 film,
which was released by Columbia Pictures. A sequel
called "When a Stranger Returns" is
also being developed. The original starred Carol
Kane as a high school student traumatized while
baby-sitting. She receives calls she thinks
are
coming from the parents asking her to check
on the kids. The calls turn out to be coming
from inside the house.
