Monday 12th May 2003: Wonder Woman Update:
Although she's been around for almost 60 years and been the star of numerous cartoons and a TV series, DC Comics "WONDER WOMAN" has never appeared in a major motion picture. Now all that's about to change as Warner Bros Pictures have hired screenwriter Philip "Smallville" Levens to adapt a big screen version of the 'Amazon Princess' for producers Joel "Matrix" Silver and Leonard Goldberg. The project is being overseen by Warners production VPs Courtney Valenti/Dan Lin and Susan Levin for Silver Pictures."Wonder Woman", the comic book character was created in the 1940's by Harvard-trained psychologist Dr. William Moulton Marston, writing under the name Charles Moulton.Among Marston's many radical world views was that civilization would develop back into a 'matriarchy' and he espoused the view that women would use sexual enslavement to achieve dominance over men. These theories landed him the post of 'consulting psychologist' for womens' magazine Family Circle. In an interview published in the October 25, 1940 issue, Marston continued to discuss his theories, making mention of the booming war-time comic book industry. The comments were well received by publisher M. C. Gaines of "All American Comics", sister company of DC Comics, leading to Marston's appointment to the Editorial Advisory Board of both companies.

Marston submitted his first script "Suprema, the Wonder Woman" to DC Comics with artist Harry Peter (!) assigned to illustrate. In 1942, "Wonder Woman" made her first appearance in "All Star Comics 8" (December 1941-January 1942), the lead story and cover for "Sensation Comics 1" (January 1942) and "Wonder Woman 1".Marston continued to highlight his 'dominance' themes in 'Wonder Woman', with many stories featuring the character in bondage. It was also during this time, that Marston's research assistant, Olive "Dotsie" Richard moved in with Marston and his wife Elizabeth Holloway Marston. Marston fathered two children by each woman, with Olive bearing a physical resemblance to 'Diana Prince', including the silver bracelets worn on her wrists. Monday 12th May 2003: Wonder Woman Update:

Wonder Woman. Producing the movie are Joel Silver and Leonard Goldberg.
Wonder Woman has long been Silver's pet project but with no significant
move forward, is this that move? No word yet, but we'll keep you posted.

Tuesday 6th May 2003: Wonder Woman Update:
Rumours are circulating that Philip Levens has been signed up to write a script for Wonder Woman.

Thursday 20th March 2003: Wonder Woman Update:
Joel Silver has been talking about how things are moving along developing Wonder Woman for the big screen "I'm not going to do Wonder Woman until I really feel that we have the material that really will make it cool," says Silver. "I don't want to just put another superhero movie out there and say, 'Okay, so that one's done.' I don't want to do that."

Tuesday 4th February 2003: Wonder Woman Update:
Looks like things are finally moving on the long in gestation Wonder Woman movie with word that Joel Silver is actively looking for a director to helm the movie. In other news Aint It Cool provided the following info on the possible plot "At the start, there's this big action scene with Wonder Woman, and her name is Diana...Only she's not the Wonder Woman this film is about because about ten pages in, she dies. And her suit sort of crawls out of the wreck where she died and heads for the nearest city. It finds this girl who's just some normal girl named Donna... [That's Donna Troy] Well, she starts to get these powers, right? She starts changing and doing stuff like smashing doors and flying and... dude, it's SPIDER-MAN with boobs for 20 pages or so. It's just silly. Turns out she's an orphan, but she's not really an orphan, and her mom is Wonder Woman, but she's not really dead. She's in a coma, and when she wakes up, it's just long enough to tell Donna she's an Amazon, too, and then she dies again, and Donna has to become Wonder Woman."

Tuesday 5th November 2002: Wonder Woman Update:
Producer Joel Silver has been talking about his much in development Wonder Woman movie and he has revealed that work is still progressing on it, but importantly no actress is attached to star. This quells the rumours that Sandra Bullock had long been attached to star as Diana, Wonder Woman.

24th July 2002: Wonder Woman Update:
Moviehole reports that Australian director Geroge Miller (Babe, Mad Max) is in talks to direct Wonder Woman. This is the first that i've heard about this, but Moviehole are usually a reliable source, so there could be some truth in the rumour. Also, in related news, Variety reports that the new "Batman vs Superman" film will be used as a launching pad for the new Solo-Superhero projects.

24th June 2002:
Wonder Woman Update:
And the casting rumours continue to keep flying. The latest actress rumoured for the role is Gretchen Egolf, I must admit the name didn't mean anything to me, but she is apparently in Martial Law on TV. Personally my money is on Sandra Bullock and until the movie starts shooting I await being wrong.

9/4/02 Wonder Woman Update:
Sandra Bullock will not be playing Wonder Woman after all. The actress has been quoted from Liz Smith's April 4 edition of her Page Six column (?) that 'the idea of my doing Wonder Woman has bit the dust'. So there. Meanwhile, Jordan Bayne from TV's "Poltergeist: The Legacy" series may take the role instead. Moviehole got the official word from the Bayne camp,

"I talked to Bayne's management this morning and they confirmed that Bayne is under consideration. If she nabs it, she will be indeed playing Wonder Woman. They want to get someone unrecognizable to audiences apparently, so as not to see an actress as wonder woman, but to see wonder woman as a character, and apparently that's why bayne looks like getting it".

Check out Jordan Bayne's official site at www.JordanBayne.com.

Wonder Woman Update:
Producer Len Goldberg has been chatting about the state of Wonder Woman to columnists Marilyn Beck and Stacy Jenel Smith. "The first-draft screenplay wasn't what we'd hoped," he said. "Now we're awaiting a new story outline, and once that's approved, a writer should have the script completed in two months or so." He went on to reveal that Sandra Bullock will decide on whether to take the lead role once she has read the final screenplay.

Wonder Woman Update:
We received an anonymous email yesterday that said that Sandra Bullock had been cast as Wonder Woman after speaking with E! We haven't been able to check this out yet, but it does look promising. The great new Super Hero Hype site said this;

"We have a script, and we're in discussions with Sandra, her representative and the studio," producer Leonard Goldberg says. "We're discussing what changes need to be made to the script so that we are all enthusiastic about going forward." (thanks to SHH)

Wonder Woman is a movie project tha has been talked about for many a year with many people rumoured to be attached to the project to play Wonder Woman. Just some of the names rumoured to have been involved are Shannon Elizabeth, Madonna, Mariah Carey, Catherine Zeta Jones and a certain Sandra Bullock, as you read through this expect her name to pop up a few times.

Wonder Woman for those of us too young to remember the TV series is basd on an Amazonian princess who comes to the States and is a superhero. First up it was rumoured to be coming back as a TV pilot but that fell through. It fell through mainly because it was apparently trying to mine the same sort of vein as Xena: Warrior Princess.

The next rumour was that Ivan Reitman was attached to produce and James R Hancock and Eve Marie Kazaros were hired to write a script. The project was being developed at Warner Brothers, which makes sense seeing as DC comics is owned by Warners.

Word then moved onto Jon Peters being attached to the project, with Reitman still attached but in the director's chair.

The project then changed hands again this time going into Joel Silver's hands. Word then was that Sandra Bullock was interested in taking the role and that Ivan Reitman was off the project. Jon Cohen was hired to write a screenplay. Cohen was involved in the screenplay for Minority Report.

Rumours then turned to Catherine Zeta Jones getting the role. Silver Pictures denied this one as they said that the movie was in early stages of production and too early to even think about casting.

The casting rumours then decided to choose Madonna as the next candidate and Rush Hour director Brett Ratner as the director. Silver Pictures refused to comment on that rumours.

In the meantime Warners snapped up possible domain names that could be used for the movie. http://www.wonderwomanmovie.com/, http://www.wonderwomanthemovie.com/ and www.dianaprince.com just in case they needed them.

Back to casting rumours and then it turned to American Pie actress Shannon Elizabeth to get talked about for the role. Word was also circulating that original Wonder Woman TV actress Lynda Carter was up for the role of Hippolyta the Amazon goddess.

Casting rumours then turned back to Joel Silver saying he was in talks with Sandra Bullock for the role.

Actress Julie Strain then weighed into the casting, revealing that "I auditioned for that Wonder Woman movie, and I know I'm the best Wonder Woman, but I found out that Sandra Bullock is playing that part. Its ridiculous -- you want to see someone with long legs in that part. Its year 2000; loosen up and hire someone that'll show their tits. But I'm the Wonder Woman year 2000; I know it and everyone else knows it. I'll wear stars and stripes and a G-string to the movie premiere, and I'll show everyone who the real Wonder Woman is." Sounds more like she was just trying to get publicity for herself than their being any chance of her getting the part.

Back to the casting and it was then rumoured that Mariah Carey was thought to be getting the role. Thankfully this turned out to be utterly false.

News then turned to something a bit more concrete, a new writer was hired, Todd Alcott, and his job was to rewrite the Jon Cohen script.

And back to the casting yet again with the news that WWF wrestler Chyna had apparently accepted the role of Wonder Woman. Silver Pictures rubbished that story completely and stuck to the line that it was too early in the projects development for casting.

Back to Sandra Bullock again, with producer Michael Fleming announcing "Sandy's interested, and we've met with her, it all depends on the script and director, of course, but she hasn't done anything this physical in a long time, and she'd like to. We'd love to have her."

And that is as far as things have gotten. Who knows what will happen with this project!
