IGN has been on a roll this week with their news about the expanded cast for X-Men 3. "Stax" has informed us that the latest confirmed actor for the three-quel is Iranian actress Shohreh Aghdashloo, who was nominated for an Oscar as a supporting actress for the 2003 drama House of Sand and Fog. Aghdashloo will be playing Doctor Kavita Rao, who was introduced in Joss Whedon's recent run on "Astonishing X-Men" as a geneticist that created a serum called Hope to try to rid mutants of their mutations, essentially "curing" them. The controversial serum created waves within the X-Men, particularly with Hank McCoy AKA The Beast, who will be played by Kelsey Grammer in the upcoming film.

Ok, I know you thought that Kitty Pryde had been cast already, but as with anything to do with this project any assumption is wrong. Ellen Page has instead been signed up as the character, with filming starting next week. Still more casting to be done though as the role of Warren Worthington the father of Angel is still to be cast.

maybe the following bizarre rumour has some

saying train wreck about this movie yesterday,

Hey
it's only a few weeks till filming is due to
start on X-Men 3 so why would they have anything
as important as the cast locked down, so it's
appropriate that such a messy project so far
continues in such a vein with todays' rumour
that Nick Stahl is being considered for the
role of Angel. But I'm sure I'm not alone in
thinking that Fox might still project at this
late stage seeing as how it can't get to be
anymore of a trainwreck.

20th Century Fox and Marvel Entertainment have
chosen Brett Ratner ("Rush Hour" films)
to replace Matthew Vaughn as the director of
"X-Men 3." Filming will start in August
for a Memorial Day weekend 2006 release date.
Variety states that the "X3" budget
is locked, and the Fox and Marvel brass consider
the script by Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg to
be at least as strong as that of the first two
installments. Maggie Grace ("Lost")
has signed on to play Kitty Pryde aka Shadowcat.

Producer Lauren Schuler-Donner has revealed in an interview
with Sci-Fi Wire that X-Men 3 is a definite go!
"I just had a conversation with [director] Bryan [Singer]
today. We just started to talk about what the possibilities
are. We're pretty sure Wolverine's going to come back...I'm
dying to put Beast in. I tried to get Beast in the first one
and the second one, but it was always too expensive. So, yeah,
I'm really dying to get Beast in, and I'd love to get Gambit
in, because he's such a cool guy. And there's some really good
casting ideas for Gambit". Filming will start on June 2005
with a May 2006 release date being scheduled. She was also asked
if Halle Berry would return, and she did say that they were
planning on writing a larger role for Storm. If Catwoman flops
I wouldn't worry about it, as she'll be biting their hand off
to reprise the role. Also thought to be returning is Ray Park
as Toad.

Wednesday 17th December 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Julius has been in touch with the following: Ian McKellen told SCI FI Wire that he's planning to reprise the role of Magneto in a proposed third X-Men movie—mainly because he just saw the second film, X2, on DVD and liked it more than he expected. "I'm going to talk about it tonight to [director] Bryan Singer," McKellen said before the Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King premiere in Los Angeles on Dec. 3. "I've only just seen [X2] on DVD, because I was fearful that I wasn't going to enjoy it as much as the first, and I enjoyed it more."
McKellen added, "I e-mailed [Singer] and said, 'Are you making number three, and am I going to be in it?' And I sent the same thing off to the writers [Michael Dougherty, Dan Harris and David Hayter]. And positive replies came back. So I've made sure Bryan's got a ticket for tonight, and Michael Dougherty's got a ticket for tonight. So I'm doing my best. Here I am in Hollywood, I'm working the system."
McKellen will be on view as Gandalf in The Return of the King, the upcoming third Rings film, which opens Dec. 17.

Wednesday 17th December 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Julius has been in touch with the following: Super producer Lauren-Shuler Donner ("X-Men" 1 & 2) is hard at work on a variety of projects as of late including the Keanu Reeves-led adaptation of "Constantine" and took a little time out of her schedule to talk with DH and a few others about what's going on with a third "X-Men" movie.
Are you getting many X3 questions?
Sure, mostly which character would you want to see in X3? [From others] I'm getting Beast, I'm getting Gambit - I have a great idea for Gambit but I can't say what it is.
When do you think it'll start shooting?
Ideally I would love to come out Summer of 2005 which means we'd better get going, but it's going to take a while to make the deals and all that.
What about writers?
Writers we're going to use Dan Harris & Mike Dougherty (the writers for "X2"), and then we're also going to develop a "Wolverine" movie at the same time but it won't come out until after "X3"
Are any of the actors signed on like Anna?
Some of our younger cast are. Shawn [Ashmore, aka. Iceman]...Anna [Paquin] is not. What we did was made everybody two-picture deals, so anybody who was in the first two are not but Shawn is and Colossus and Kitty Pride...
Will Colossus have a bigger role?
We'll see, probably.
Will the Dark Phoenix storyline be used?
We have to, we kind of left that out there so we have to follow that thread along with some other stories.
Ian McKellan told us he's keen on doing X3?
I can't imagine doing it without him or Patrick [Stewart] or any of the main cast...and Halle [Berry]. We have to make sure that she's used well and we have a great great storyline for her, or maybe we do a Storm movie...who knows.
Monday 15th December 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Julius has sent in the following from an interview Coming Soon did with Sir Ian McKellen "
Fans are also eagerly awaiting news on a possible X-Men 3, which may still be a little bit further down the road. "Ask me this time tomorrow when I would've spent the day with Bryan Singer and one of the writers who is coming to the premiere. I'm told by both of them that they hope there's going to be a third movie, they both hope to be involved and they both hope that Magneto would be a part, but they don't quite get around to saying I'll be playing Magneto. It could be the young Magneto they could be writing. Who knows."
Friday 5th December 2003: X3 Update:
Director Bryan Singer has signed an overall deal with 20th Century Fox to develop projects he'll direct and produce. Singer has separately begun negotiations to return for a third installment of the X-Men franchise. Fox production president Hutch Parker said that the effort to mount another film is in its early stages, but that he would have been eager to bring Singer into the Fox fold even if the studio wasn't thinking about another film. "We are always wary of sequels because so often they are an invitation to mediocrity, because not enough attention is paid to the skills that allowed the first film to succeed," Parker said. "We had such a fantastic experience with Bryan on X2, he was a great partner who navigated the process, which included the magnitude of the budget, the number of visual effects, and our desire to build on the first film and make a better and more satisfying movie. The deal is an outgrowth of the strong relationship we built on those two films."
Wednesday 26th November 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Julius has sent in the following "From TV Guide's interview with X2 director Bryan Singer:
TVGO: What's your favorite line in the film?
Singer: I love when Ian McKellen says to Patrick Stewart, "You should have
killed me when you had the chance." Because if [he] had just done that, none
of the problems in X-Men 1, X2 or maybe even X3 would've happened.
TVGO: So give me a little something more about X-Men 3.
Singer: I just did. You're not hearing it. "You should have killed me when I
had the chance."
TVGO: Magneto comes back again?
Singer: (Coyly) I don't know about that...
TVGO: Are there certain characters you just couldn't make the movie without?
Singer: Yes. Not all the characters, but there are a few that I wouldn't
want to make it without.
TVGO: Hugh Jackman, obviously?
Singer: Yeah."
Wednesday 26th November 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Julius has been in touch with the following "Variety has published an excellent interview with producer Lauren Shuler Donner about the X-Men franchise and more. Here's a clip about Constantine and X-Men 3...
Fans also have been vocal about "Constantine," whose comicbook premise of a
chain-smoking, hard-drinking con artist and occultist with real magical
knowledge is about as far removed from superheroes as you can get.
Aficionados' foremost concern is the recasting of the comics' very English
John Constantine as an American. But Shuler Donner, who believes fans will be happy with Reeves, says the character's bad attitude and irreverence has survived intact. "It's extremely close in spirit. John Constantine is a really unique character
because he walks the line between good and bad, between hell and heaven. He
doesn't care if he's liked."
After "Constantine," Shuler Donner plans a short break from comics to do the
drama "The Secret Life of Bees" and then is back for "X3." For the third
installment, she wants to include a loquacious, blue-furred scientist called
the Beast and a sequence in the "X-Men's" training center, the Danger Room.
Thursday 20th November 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Julius has sent in the following "November 18, 2003 - In today's Marvel Analyst Day Webcast, Marvel Studios Producer Avi Arad announced that we can officially expect X3 during the Summer of 2006. I would guess that all the recent talk of a third X-Sequel from producer Lauren Shuler Donner has prompted a surprised Bryan Singer to figure out exactly when in his schedule he would feel ready to helm the third (and final?) chapter in the mutant saga."
Saturday 15th November 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Julius has sent in the following update on X Men 3 " This weekend, producer Lauren Shuler Donner began talking about X-Men 3.
Stories came out in websites such as Scifi.com and Superhero Hype. I ran
into producer Avi Arad and director Bryan Singer at the premiere of Master
and Commander: The Far Side of the World, and they seemed surprised to hear
such talk had begun. Arad said, “Well, if she told you we are prepping, we
must be prepping.” A flabbergasted Singer said, “Uh, great! Awesome. I don't
think I can talk about it, but I’d like to [make X3] very much, so we’ll see
if we can work it out.”
Stories reported that not only is Shuler-Donner planning X3, but a separate
Wolverine film. Singer’s response to that was, “I don't know. I think an
X-men film is simultaneously a Wolverine film, so in my opinion that’s
something that might happen afterwards, but ultimately I can’t even talk
about it.” Arad added, “I think that both concepts are valid and both will
be made.”
Singer couldn’t say anymore, but Arad stuck around to update us on all his
upcoming projects.
Where will a Wolverine story go? Look in the books and you will see where
it’s going.
Is there a specific series it could be based on? The series that is famous
is dealing with his past, with the woman he loved and what happened in
Japan, which will be quite interesting.
Tuesday 11th November 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Julius has sent in the following "From the Chicago Sun Times' interview with X2 Producer Lauren Shuler Donner:
First, what about another "X- Men" movie? She reveals, "Oh, there will
definitely be 'X 3' We're looking for a great story. We're lucky with this
series because there is 40 years of great stories in the comics." She also
is encouraged by the fact that despite originally saying she was "X'd" out,
Halle Berry is reconsidering resuming her role as Storm. "I hope Halle comes
back," Donner says. "We just have to give her something great to do." As for
a release date, she says, "That same nice May date in 2005 sounds good to
me."
Tuesday 11th November 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about the possibility of playing Wolverine one more time "Well it will be a few years off, but I am tied to the character of Wolverine and really do want to know how his story progresses. Y'Know, I owe alot to Wolverine, and i love working with Bryan Singer, and Pat Stewart and Ian McKellan and the guys so i'd be silly to throw it all away, so yes when they are ready, I'm there".
Monday 10th November 2003: X-Men 3 Update:
Canada's The Province chatted with Shawn Ashmore, aka Bobby Drake, aka
Iceman from the X-Men movies. He talked about whether or not all the cast
will return and the situation with Halle Berry.
Shawn Ashmore tells us that he's optimistic that all the X-Men will be
regrouping in front of the cameras to fight for the rights of mutants
everywhere by next fall.
"It's a big cast to get together," notes the 24-year-old Richmond-born star,
who plays Bobby "Iceman" Drake. "But I think it's pretty much everybody
coming back. I can't wait to find out what the story is this time."
Ashmore also confirms reports that Halle Berry is up for weathering another
round as Storm, as long as her hours are shortened and her role is
lengthened. Berry, like Ashmore, was stuck in Vancouver for almost the
entire six-month shoot even though their screen time was minimal -- too many
major characters competing for attention.
Ashmore and Berry ran into each other soon after the young actor arrived
here to shoot the Nick Cannon film, The Underclassman, for Miramax (which
also features X2 alumni Kelly Hu).
"Our production office was at Catwoman's studio space," says Ashmore, "so I
just kind of bumped into her on the lot. A lot of the same people crew-wise
that were working on X2 are working on Catwoman so it was a nice little
reunion."
Monday 10th November 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
James Marsden, who played Scott Summers/Cyclops in X-Men and X2, told SCI FI
Wire that X3 is in the works and that the producers have expressed interest
in his reprising the character. "I know that there's an outline, a treatment
out there, for the third one," Marsden said in an interview. "I don't know
what's in it or what the story is."Marsden said that during his interactions with "big, die-hard X-Men fans,"
they expressed interest in seeing the Dark Phoenix saga from the comic books
depicted on the big screen. "[It's] when Jean Grey [Famke Janssen] turns
into Dark Phoenix," the actor said. "So I interviewed some of these fans,
and they'd very much like that to happen. I guess that would include me a
lot, because she'd become super cosmic and evil. So that would be an
interesting dichotomy, to have Hugh Jackman [Wolverine] and [me] team up to
stop her." Alert fans may have caught some foreshadowing of the Dark Phoenix storyline
in X2. But will that form the basis of X3? "I don't know," Marsden said. "I
don't know if that's the real comic-book story or not, or, if it is, if
they're going to use it," he said. "Jean definitely does continue to evolve
after the second movie, and I'd like to see us get into that relationship a
bit more. And I'd like to see them get into a relationship between Cyclops
and Wolverine a little bit more [too]."
Wednesday 5th November 2003: X-Men 3 Update:
Sir Ian McKellen has apparently said that he wants to do a third X-Men film.
"X-Men and its story is about mutants, about people who feel disaffected
with society, and whom society is hard on, appeals most to young blacks,
young Jews and young gays. That's why I did the movie and that's why I
intend to do the third movie," he said recently, when he confirmed that he
would return if asked. "If my character is in it and if he's my age. They
might bring Magneto back, but it may be the young Magneto. Who knows?"
Monday 28th July 2003: X Men 3 Update:
An update on the Psylocke rumour, and it now looks certain to be just that
has been sent in "the rumor about psylocke was floating around on the
internet. it looked like an extract from a conversation people were having,
which i suppose isn't great for reliability."
Wednesday 23rd July 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Halle Berry has revealed that if she does return to X Men 3 she wants her part beefed up substantially ""After every movie, the real die-hard fans come up to me, and they often say, 'Yeah, you know, Storm was OK. But she should do more. She should fly. She should fight. She should be more of what she is in the comic-book series, I'm not really complaining. I'm happy to be a part of it. It's been a great franchise to be a part of. But I think the fans feel that in the comic books, she's represented as a little bit more of a leader, and she uses her powers a little bit more than just changing her eyes and doing the weather. I think they want to see her do a little more things. So, as they continue to tell me this, I continue to try to pass this along, to no avail. So that maybe the next time, Storm will be ... whether I play Storm or not ... maybe the character will get to do more of what she traditionally does in the comic books. I haven't been offered the third movie, you know? So I have no idea if it'll come my way or not."
Friday 18th July 2003 X3 X Men 3 Update:
Word reaches us that Bryan Singer has completed work on his treatment for X
Men 3. Now don't go getting all excited as he indicates that he wants to
direct another movie before he does X Men 3.
Thursday 17th July 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Rumours are circulating that Orlando Bloom is being considered for the role of Gambit in X Men 3.
 Monday 16th June 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Producer Tom DeSanto has been discussing whether we may see Angel in X Men 3 ""Angel - The funny thing about Angel is that he was in several versions of the original X-Men script until very, very late in the game...He was also in quite a few drafts of X-Men 2 and it was ultimately decided that, again, story time was better spent developing other characters like Nightcrawler. So hopefully we'll see him in X-Men 3, but it ultimately comes down to serving the story. Beast - Beast is probably the number one contender who's made it the farthest along in X-Men and X-Men 2. Sentinels - For a while, the Sentinels were in some of the thought processes behind the second movie, but again, it's trying to keep it real and do it right. If they're done, I think they should be in all their 30-foot-tall glory and not walking around human size".
 Friday 13th June 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Just received word that Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart will sign up for X Men 3 and it will depend the script as they have not yet currently signed up.
 Monday 9th June 2003: X 3 X Men 3 Update:

Lady Deathstrike in X Men 3.
 Tuesday 13th May 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Famke Janssen has been describing the final scene of X Men 2, and it appears that the storyline in X Men 3 will skip past the first Phoenix storyline from the comics ""The character was evolving....into the Dark Phoenix!"
 Thursday 8th May 2003:X3 X Men 3 Update:
Production Designer Guy Fyas has been talking about some sets that might be used for X Men 3 "The Danger Room and the Danger Toom control room (where someone can monitor & supervise the training sessions), Beast and Beast's laboratory, Angel and Archangel, The interior of Alkali Lake's abandoned base which included some very intricate prison cells and a giant cylindrical room where a big mid-air fight sequence was going to happen between Toad and Nightcrawler, a land vehicle that was going to come out of the cargo area of the X-Jet, and a secret level in the Pentagon in Washington D.C."
 Wednesday 7th May 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Bryan Singer has again been discussing the X Men 3 rumours " It depends on the circumstances. I know I love this cast and I love the experiences I have on these movies. I feel great affection and proprietorship when it comes to this franchise, so I would probably want to be involved in a third film,"
 Tuesday 6th May 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Hugh Jackman has been talking about whether he may return for X Men 3 and to be honest it's not that much clearer "I'm sure they're planning 'X3,' and all I can say is I love this character. There's so much more meat on the bone than you would ever hope to get out of a movie like this and it's great fun. You have all the action, too. Of course, my agent says, 'Never say definitely yes, Hugh!".

Looks like Jean Grey is coming back for X Men 3 as Famke Janssen has been talking about it"I have a firm commitment to the X-Men movies. They are my priority. I've signed for a third. If, and when, it happens I'll arrange my schedule around it...I have no idea where the writers will go with Jean's story, but there are some great possibilities and ones I'd really like to explore".However Byan Singer may not come back as director "I would definitely be involved in some capacity on a third X-Men film because I love the franchise and I love the cast, but I don't necessarily see myself having to direct it...I have purposely incorporated things into X2 and have ideas that would lend themselves to future pictures, but certain circumstances would have to be appropriated because I really want to do a few small pictures before I tackle another big, special-effects movie". Rumours are circulating that X Men 3 is being discussed with a May 2006 release.
 Monday 5th May 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Ok, you are all asking me, who's coming back for X Men 3. Well let's see. We know Alan Cumming and Rebecca Romijin Stamos are definetely in. Anna Paquin, Aaron Stanford and Famke Janssen are in. Let's see who else might be in, but might not be as they are not contracted Hugh Jackman (has said he wants one more), Patrick Stewart, James Marsden, Ian Mckellen. Let's see who won't be in. At a guess I'd say Halle Berry. Her role in X Men 2 was very thin so unless her part was beefed up quite substantially then I very much doubt it.
 Friday 2nd May 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Alan Cumming confirmed to The Calgary Sun that he and Rebecca Romjin-Stamos have both signed for X Men 3.
 Monday 27th April 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
The following quotes have appeared and might help in ascertaining if we'll see an X Men 3
Sir Ian McKellen
"If they ask for me and the script's any good... I'll be there. I'd be very disappointed to hear that Magneto won't be in X-Men 3."
Patrick Stewart
"If this film does extraordinarily well then I have no doubt there will be an X-men 3."
Hugh Jackman
"I wouldnt be surprised if they're thinking that this is more like Bond or Star Trek, where it's episodic and you can just keep on going."
James Marsden
"I think they will make another one because I think this one will be successful, but logistically it will get tricky with the cast. I think we have something really special with the X-Men. Bryan's assembled a great cast and a great group of people around him and, for X-Men 3, it would suck if that whole formula and chemistry was messed with."
Famke Janssen
"The third one would be so much harder to put together because, for the second one, we were all under contract - we were obligated to do it. But the third one is all open and to get all these people - and some people are going to ask for so much money - I really don't know what will happen."
Bryan Singer
"I imagine it will be a nightmare co-ordinating everyone's schedules. But I definitely don't think you need all the characters back to do a third movie. There are a few key characters, though, that I personally would want to have back and feel that it wouldn't be an X-Men film without. It'll just be a matter of how to figure all that out."
 Friday 24th April 2003: X Men 3 Update:
Hugh Jackman has said he cant see himself playing Wolverine for much
longer. The X-Men star said in a recent interview that he would do another
movie as the character, but doesnt want to be stuck playing him into his
old age. They don't really have to rely on the existing format because
there are so many characters in the pantheon of the comic book series," he
explained. "The younger characters, which Wolverine mentors, could take up
the mantle and do just as good a job. It is limitless and the characters
could grow up with the fans."
 Tuesday 18th March 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Bryan Singer has been talking about having Beast in X Men 3 "I love Beast as a character, and I'd like to have him in the next movie. He will have to be done with CG, because makeup would just take too much time. I'd also love to do something with the Danger Room, but that didn't work out."
 Thursday 6th March 2003: X3 X Men 3 Update:
Kelly Hu has revealed that she has signed on for a third X Men movie "I certainly hope so. I've already signed a contract. Whether or not they have me come back is another story, but I'd love to"
Tuesday 10th December 2002: X Men 3 Update:
Actor Tyler Mane has revealed that he has been signed up for another TWO X Men movies to reprise his role as Sabretooth.
