Sunday 11th August 2002: xXx: What Did You Think?
We've been hearing mixed reviews of this Vin Diesel actioner over here in the UK. A lot of people have said that they love the movie, others, well basically hated the thing. We don't get the movie over here untol October, but the film opened in the States this last weekend. Over the three days, the film took a whopping $46 million! It's rocked the box office but is it any good. Our regular reviewer Gareth (sort of) likd it as too did our LA corespondent Gil Benzeevi. But we want to hear what you guys thought. Post your own personal reviews in our new forum. For more info on the film, take a look at our xXx preview page and our reviews of the film.

Friday 2nd August 2002: XXX Clips Online
This is one of those movies that has received very mixed reviews. Some test screenings have been very positive, others not, but i've heard more good things about XXX than bad. 90 per cent of the film is set in Prague, Czech Republic and Vin Diesel stars alongside Samuel L. Jackson and Asia Argento. Rob Cohen directs. xXx is released in the US next week and in the UK in October. Yahoo Movies have posted eight clips from the film over at their site. You've gotta check them out! Hit the link to do so.

29th July: xXx Update:
Here's a huge update on xXx for ya! Now I was a little concerned last week that this Vin Diesel actioner wasn't going to live up to expectation. Reports have been seen in the written press that Diesel was phoning in his performance and early test screening were not all that good. Then, today Aint It Cool News file not one but two extremely positive reviews for the film. Here's a little from one of them.

As far as comparing this film with The Fast and the Furious, there are a few things that make this superior. The first is that the pacing is right where it should be, no awkward moments of forced dialogue before we get to Vin again. It's not that the other characters in the film are that interesting, they aren't, they don't have to be. Secondly, I think the action feels a lot more dynamic, and boy is it all shot beautifully. wait'll you see a certain scene that'll give snowboarders everywhere sweaty palms. Third, as much as I enjoyed BT's techno-score for F&F, I far prefered the moods that Randy Edelman was able to create combined with the electronic sounds of the film
. Take a look at the full review.

There's also a whole new bunch of images from the film up at Cinemovies. Three are posted above. Hit the link to see the rest.

Then I stumble across this little story up on The Hollywood Reporter's site. The article, some of which is posted below, explains how they managed to get Vin Diesel's face into most of the film's breathtaking stunts.

Leave it to home-brewed Hollywood software to handle the hard knocks. In Revolution Studios' upcoming "XXX," which opens Aug. 9, VFX facility Digital Domain used its own proprietary software to make it appear as if Vin Diesel did all his own stunts. The heads of stuntmen, wearing helmets and flame-retardant ski masks while jumping motorcycles over explosive razor wire fences, were replaced by an extremely detailed computer-generated model of Diesel's head and neck. An authentic-looking CG version of the actor's bald pate was possible because the team at DD worked out a new code -- based on computationally brain-racking subsurface scattering techniques (which controlled how light appeared to reflect off his skin) -- to give Diesel's head a realistic glow. DD ended up swapping Diesel's head in more than 40 scenes in which stuntmen parachute, snowboard, airboard and motorcycle through extremes.

Dunno about you, but I can't wait for this one!!!!

16th July 2002: xXx Update
Coming Soon posted an article that revealed a litle more about xXx's plot. This was taken from an interview with Sony unit publicist Michael Singer.

"Marton Csokas, a very interesting New Zealand actor from a New Zealand mother and Hungarian father, Marton plays Yorgi who was an officer of the Russian army in Chechnia. He and his buddies, having gone through the war, decide that whatever they did for mother Russia wasn't worth it. Basically, they turn themselves into a kind of syndicate. They've developed something called Silent Night which in the film is a chemical agent that was being worked on by soviet scientists. He's hired them to redevelop it essentially to destroy the world".

Singer also revealed a little more about Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) himself.

"He videotapes his outrageous stunts and sells them on this underground cultural black market. He's not an X-games participant. He's not a competitor. He lives in this sort of crazed subculture of people who just do unbelievable outrageous things and have them videotapes and then sell them. That's how he makes a dubious living. The two strikes, we don't see that he's been arrested before, but we can certainly understand why it happened".

Check out Coming Soon for more details.

13th May 2002: xXx Update:
The US release date for xXx has been put back. Don't worry its only been put back a week from August 2nd to August 9th. The reason is probably to stop it clashing with the release of the Mel Gibson supernatural thriller Signs.

The Hollywood Reporter claim that a sequel to the August release xXx has been greelit by Columbia Pictures. It's reported that the film's star Vin Diesel signed a £6.8 million ($10 million) sequel deal when he agreed to appear in the original. It has been pensiled in for a 2004 release date.

News was posted on Dark Horizons today that a stuntman has been killed whilst filming a scene on the river Vltava in Prague. "A stuntman with a parachute was being dragged behind the motorboat, he didn't let go in time and smashed into Palackeho Bridge at full speed". Apparently the accident was witnessed by hundreds of onlookers, but the crew arn't allowed to comment at present. A pic is up of the scene over at iDNES before the tragic accident happened.

21/3/02
Czech website Filmweb have posted a host of stills from the Prague set of xXx. The pics feature a lot of the crew including director Rob Cohen and star Vin Diesel. The scene looks like its set down by the Vltava river that runs through the center of the city. I know exactly where they're shooting this as I walked down the same stretch of river back in January. This section is located a little down river from the Charles Bridge, where we reported on the 19th March that they were filming there also (see below). Ooh, take a look at that car......

19/3/02
A scooper has sent us in some information from the Prague set of Triple X (xXx).

"Have just returned from a week in Prague. One major, multi-camera scene was been shot on the famous Charles Bridge, involving an old American car which had been kitted out with a multitude of extra dials on the dash. I managed to take some photographs and then was moved on by security! Amazing to see!" (thanks to David).

Come on David let us see those pics! Send them to me here!

4/3/02
Apple have just posted the second trailer for Rob Cohen's high-octane action flick xXx. The trailer replaces the first one that we saw online a couple of weeks back, and in the new one includes a lot more footage from the film and a little look at some of the great stunts that we can expect to see when it hits theaters in August of this year. Click on the links below to check it out.

13th Street have been looking at Rich Wilkes' screenplay for XXX and posted a review over at their site.

"Xander Cage (Diesel) is an extreme-sports athlete covered with tattoos and piercings, willing to do just about the most dangerous and twisted kind of stunt imaginable. The thing is, X (as he is called by close friends) isn't into selling out and making big bucks by branding his name on video games or gear; he pushes the edge just to prove he can pull off these crazy tricks.

Enter Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), a representative of the National Security Agency, who needs a new kind of undercover spy to infiltrate a savvier generation of criminal organization. There's a bunch of European bohemian mercs that call themselves Anarchy 99 working out of Prague, and these guys can zero in and ID the old-style secret agent man like a bad smell". (full report here).

The teaser trailer for XXX is now online. Available in Quicktime, the teaser that alsso airs during today's Superbowl in the Us is available to download in the following speeds,

Another image from XXX has appeared online, this time a promotional pic released by Sony. Check out the photo on the right of Vin Diesel with a great tatoo on the back of his neck.

The film is scheduled for release in the US on August 2nd of this year. The filmmakers will have to move fast as they're still shooting in Prague and will go on for a few more weeks yet.

Effects house Digital Domain will handle over 100 effects shots needed for the movie and Corona reports
that they
Image (c) Sony
will also work on a number of the extreme sports scenes. Finally German heavy-rock group Rammstein and English band Orbital will contribute to the soundtrack.

25/1/02

Two new bits of information for the Vin Diesel action vehicle XXX. First, check out the first image on the right here. Here is our first look at Sam Jackson in the movie. He stands alongside director Rob Cohen and Diesel himself. The second image over on the far right is of the Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, which stands in the famous Old Town Square
in Prague. Now Corona reports that there will be a set piece stunt performed outside of this Gothic cathedral. Their report originates from various Prague newspapers. They also report that one of the sound stages being used at the nearby Prague Studios has been water-logged for a scene or scenes involving a submarine.

XXX or Triple X, reunites Vin Diesel with his Fast & The Furious director, Rob Cohen and producer Neil Moritz.

This film also boasts the talents of one Samuel L. Jackson and Asia Argento along with rap star Eve. It's thought that Eve, the girl that brought us last year's hit Who's That Girl, will also contribute to the films soundtrack.

Production began on XXX back on November 26th 2001 in LA and moved on yesterday (7th January) to Prague. The budget is set at $50 million and the shoot will last around ten weeks.

More news on XXX as we get it!
