Thursday
2nd December 2004 XXX: State of the Union Update:
Before 2 Fast 2 Furious you would have thought replacing
Vin Diesel with a much lower profile actor was an utterly stupid
idea. But after the success of that movie, and the utter preposterousness
of Chronicles of Riddick, could the casting of Ice Cube actually
be a masterstroke? I'd say it's too early to call, as the movies
a while away on 29th April, but if it is the its another nail
in Vin's career coffin.

-The film will begin shooting in mid-July, with locations set
to include Los Angeles, Baltimore and the nation's capital.
-Michael Roof will return to the sequel, reprising his role
as National Security Agency techie Toby Lee Shavers.

power struggle." That's the first we've seen of Ice Cube's
character name.
Tuesday
13th January 2004: XXX2 Update:
Ice Cube has been talking about the in development XXX2 "We're
still working on the script, but we're going to tailor make
it for me. We don't want to copy what Vin did or try to do a
movie that's the same thing but rejuvenated. Vin's character
came from an X-Games Extreme Sports type of world. I think my
character has to come from a totally different world. I'll be
a new XXX agent brought in to work for the government. We're
going to think of a new story, and we have Lee Tamahori working
on the script. The first thing I said to him was that I do not
want to make a big blockbuster movie. I want to make a movie
that is good and we'll leave that blockbuster talk to everybody
else."
Wednesday
5th November 2003: XXX2 Update:
Samuel L. Jackson will reprise his role of NSA Agent Augustus
Gibbons in the
XXX sequel, joining Ice Cube to star in the Revolution Studios
sequel. Lee
Tamahori is directing the film next summer for a 2005 release.
Friday
3rd October 2003: XXX2 Update:
Ice Cube has replaced Vin Diesel for XXX2 it has been revealed
by Revolution today. He will play a new character recruited
by the National Security Agency to become a XXX agent. Lee Tamahori
is still attached to the project that is being planned for a
Summer 2005 release date.
Monday
22nd September 2003: XXX2 Update:
Word reaches us today that Director Rob Cohen has signed on
to direct a
project called Stealth and has passed on XXX2 which will probably
now be
directed by Lee Tamahori. Filming on Stealth will start in Australia
January 2004.
Friday
29th August 2003: XXX2 Update:
Revolution Studios is moving forward on the sequel to the Vin
Diesel-starrer
XXX, but it is not clear who will direct the project. Rob Cohen,
who
directed the original, has right of first refusal. However,
if he plans to
make Columbia Pictures' Stealth as his next feature, the reins
will likely
go to Lee Tamahori, who is in talks to direct the follow-up.
Thursday
7th August 2003: XXX2 Update:
Producer Neil Moritz has revealed that Rob Cohen will not return
to direct
XXX2 and also that the real star of the first movie Asia Argento
will not
return either. He also discussed the scenario of the sequel
"No, it's not
pirates. I can tell you that it takes place in the United States. The
switch
has nothing to do with Pirates of the Caribbean stealing the
pirate movie
thunder. We just ultimately decided that this fit the characters
better, or
actually was something a little different than what you'd expect. It's
not
necessarily that it has to be exotic. It just has to be really
cinematic.
There's plenty in the United States that we can have."
Filming is planned for next summer with a summer 2005 release
date being
looked at.

Monday 31st March 2003: XXX2 Update:
Director Rob Cohen has been talking about the forthcoming
XXX sequel. Or
should that be sequels? "It's happening," he says.
"I'm gonna start shooting
it in the summer of 2004, and it will be out for the summer
of 2005. I'm
developing two scripts, one follows the template of the first
one, which
takes place with the Maraca Strait pirates in South East Asia,
and the other
takes place in D.C. I think both will get made."

Friday 14th March 2003: XXX2 Update:
Vin Diesel has been talking about Pitch Black follow-up
The Chronicles of
Riddick and the XXX sequel. "The objective was never to
make a sequel to
Pitch Black," he says, "but to explore the universe
Riddick lives in and to
explore whatever his purpose is in this universe. These movies
will involve
plane travel through different dimensions." As for the
XXX follow-up. "It's
inevitable," he continues.. "There are two being written.
One of them deals
with Washington and the Capitol Dome. The other one takes place
in the
Orient."

Thursday
2nd January 2003: XXX2 Update:
XXX director Rob
Cohen has been talking to CNN
about the proposed sequel, entitled, wait for it, XXX2 (pronounced
Triple-X Squared, apparently).
Now, I wasn't a huge fan of the original. Perhaps I expected
far too much from it, but for me it just failed to deliver the
goods. That's not to say that it lacks potential, which I think
it does, and it's already good to see that Cohen intends to
drive the sequel in a completely different direction, thus distancing
itself from the already established Bond franchise.
COHEN: I'm dedicated to the idea that there'll be no template
for [agent] XXX. Xander's adventures will always be different.
It will not be going to another foreign place and having another
exotic villain.
You
know the Bond template, which is basically, James Bond stops
a man or woman who would like to dominate the world from succeeding
in eight to 10 beautiful, exotic locations, and eight to 10
different beautiful, exotic bodies and bedrooms. It's a beautiful
formula and it's worked magnificently for 40 years.
[But]
I would like you to come to XXX squared, as I call it, [in which
you'll] think you're going to see the NSA and another Xander-defeats-the-bad-guys-in-strange-locales,
and in fact I have something very different in mind. And so
the hope is this series will not have a rubber stamp quality.
It will in fact, almost be a different genre of movie each time.
Cohen also confirmed that two scripts are being written for
the sequel, one by original scribe Rich Wilkes set in the Malacca
Straights, Southeast Asia and a second by Simon Kimberg which
will be a thriller set in Washington DC.

Saturday
16th November 2002: XXX2 Update:
It has been revealed this week that Rob Cohen will film XXX2
after he has completed work on Warrior that he has just signed
up to.
Wednesday
16th October 2002: XXX2 Update:
Rob Cohen has been letting slip some more details of the upcoming
XXX sequel."One takes place in South East Asia and involves
the Malaka Straits pirates and other things that go on from
there," says Cohen, "The other takes place in Washington
DC, where I think our most colourful character will go up against
all the grey men in Washington. And I can see mountain-biking
sequences on the Capitol dome, things like that where, in a
domestic context opposed to an exotic context, Xander gets to
shakeup, well, George Bush and all that he represents."
He was also asked which script Vin Diesel preferred and he revealed
that Diesel said "Give me the dome."
Wednesday
16th October 2002: XXX2 Update:
Rob Cohen has been talking about the upcoming XXX sequel and
he revealed that Samuel L Jackson may not return "I'm not
certain about that...I love Sam and I was very happy with what
he did in the film but the roads divides at a certain point.
You either go down one of two roads with a character. He either
remains the handler and is always on the phone going 'Get out
of there Xander' and all that stuff which is thankless for an
actor or it becomes Lethal Weapon and suddenly it's a buddy
movie and neither option at the moment seems as anarchistic
as I'd like. What might be interesting is that there's another
force that comes into the story. I really want the movies to
stay fresh and not to go 'Oh, here's the familiar, comfortable
element'... so we'll move on and hopefully it'll be a good surprise"
Tuesday
15th October 2002: XXX2 Update:
Rob Cohen has been talking about what we may see in the sequel
to XXX "I have two scripts in development right now, One
takes place in South East Asia and involves the Malaka Straits
pirates and other things that go on from there. The other takes
place in Washington DC, where I think our most colourful character
will go up against all the grey men in Washington. And I can
see mountain-biking sequences on the Capitol dome, things like
that where, in a domestic context opposed to an exotic context,
Xander gets to shakeup, well, George Bush and all that he represents"
Tuesday
8th October 2002: XXX2 Update:
Samuel L Jackson has been talking about the possibility of returning
for the XXX sequel "We're talking about it, yeah, and we-actually
Rob and I had some conversations about what Gibbons back story
is and why he is what he is, and hopefully that will show up
in the next one. I purposely did not pick up a gun. I purposely
didn't beat anybody up. I was just Gibbons, so he's this mystery
guy, so may be we'll find out what happened to his face. We'll
find out if he was a Bond type, and why he is where he is, and
why he gets to do that stuff."
Monday
26th August 2002: XXX2
Update
Screenwriter Rich Wilkes has dropped some hints of what we may
get to see in the XXX sequel. "Now
that Vin is a $20 million dollar player, and an executive producer
on xXx2, everybody is a lot more hands-on the sequel, have my
opinions about where I want the character to go, but before
I do a thing everybody has to sign off on it." He is said
to want to "next
send Xander Cage to the land of the rising sun. Since it's a
sequel, you're [messing] with the studio's franchise, a little
more involved the second time around."
Thursday
22nd August 2002 :XXX2 Update:
Word is that Vin Diesel is going to get a staggering $22 million
dollars for the sequel to XXX, in what could easily double that
a 3% slice of the GROSS taking of the movie!
XXX2
Updated :
Tuesday August 20th 2002: XXX2 Update:
Well the first one has been out oh, all of a week so I guess
it's time to start talking about the sequel. Samuel L.Jackson
was aksed if he had signed up to the sequel yet to which he
replied Not yet! If at all possible. I havent
had too much of a chance except for Star Wars. Guess we
can mark that down as he will be.
