Monday 15th September 2003: Zatoichi Update:
At the final corporate-sponsored Sunday luncheon signifying the end of this years 28th TIFF, it was announced that-Japanese filmmaker Takeshi Kitano's "Zatoichi," the story of a blind swordsman has won the People's Choice award (voted on by Festival movie-goers) and Denys Arcand's "The Barbarian Invasions" won the prize for best Canadian feature.

Miramax has scooped up North American rights to both films.

Tuesday 9th September 2003: Zatoichi Update:
Miramax have acquired US, Latin American and Australian rights to Japanese director Takeshi Kitano's "Zatoichi", a previous Silver Lion award at the Venice International Film Festival.

"Zatoichi" is a bloody actioner, featuring a blind masseur, gambler, swordsman who frees a village from the deadly grip of gangsters and samurai. The character was featured in a Japanese TV series 20 years ago and has been updated with a fresh take by Kitano. Thanks to Michael Stevens.
