Wednesday 17th August 2005: Movie News: Zoom: Item Posted by: Rich Badley: In the same week that the cast for X-Men 3 has been filling up, Variety reports that its studio, Fox and their partner Marvel Films, have dropped the suit filed in June against Sony and Revolution Pictures, claiming that the Tim Allen superhero comedy Zoom bore too much of a resemblance to their own mutant franchise. In Zoom, Tim Allen plays an out-of-shape former superhero who is called upon to train the latest generation of superheroes at a special school. The biggest issues came from the fact that it was about a school for mutants and that Sony decided to release it two weeks before the intended Memorial Day 2006 release for X-Men 3 which may have "caused confusion." The desire to settle the matter in court was quelled when Sony moved Zoom back to early August to avoid the Wolfgang Poseidon remake Poseidon, which had moved to the same May 13 date. Sony also made some changes to the Zoom script to maintain a PG rating, as well as changing a character's name and the location of a research lab to lessen the similarities between the two films.

Thursday 26th May 2005: Movie News: Zoom: Item Posted by: Loretta Francis: Chevy Chase will star in Revolution Studio's comedy "Zoom." The film revolves around an out-of-shape superhero (Tim Allen) who is called back into action to turn a ragtag group of kids into a new generation of superheroes to save the world. It is being directed by Pete Hewitt and is based on Jason Lethcoe's graphic novel "Zoom's Academy for the Super Gifted." Columbia Pictures is planning a May 12, 2006 release.
