Dice Rules: The Andrew Dice Clay Concert Movie DVD Review:

Perhaps the most offensive comedy act since his time, Andrew Dice Clay shocks as a form of entertainment in the 1991 film, Dice Rules, recently
released for the first time on DVD. The film is rated NC-17 for language alone, which is plenty reason for the rating.

It may have been excusable if the material was funny, but unlike some other offensive comedians, there don’t seem to be any real jokes in Dice’s material. Instead, it’s just a man onstage talking about his sex life, or the sex life he would like to have.

Rather than a comedian, Dice reminds one more of that horny friend in the locker room who just can’t seem to stop talking about what he wants to do to
women, but never really seems to be dating anyone.

Dice Rules starts as an actual film, following a meek character around as he is verbally abused. He is married to an extremely obese woman who beats him when he isn’t a proper husband. All of this changes one day though, when he buys a leather jacket. Suddenly he has the ability to stand up for himself and verbally abuse his wife.


All throughout this narrative portion of the film, Dice also narrates the film in confusing segments which seem to have been made up as filler, because of how pointless the script was. It doesn’t help much, except to confuse the film even further. Once they finally get to the concert footage, it’s a relief, but even that dissipates quickly. It seems as if the concert goes on an unreasonable amount of time, and all the while it also never really feels as if it’s anything more than an act. It seems as though Dice is playing a character on stage, and he is merely trying as hard as he can to offend everyone in one way or another.

There are a few admirable moments, such as the impressions he does near the end, although his DeNiro needs some work. The DVD has nothing on it, and everyone should count themselves lucky. As
offensive as the film was, if there had been an audio track, I’m sure that it would have just been redundant.
