Eagles Farewell Tour: Live From Melbourne DVD Review:
Introducing
this as their Farewell Tour 1, the Eagles perform all of their
greatest hits and a few new ones in front of a packed crowd
in Melbourne, Australia. Featuring Glenn Frey on guitar, keyboards
and vocals, Don Henley on drums, percussion, guitar, and vocals,
Joe Walsh on guitar, slide guitar, organ, and vocals, and Timothy
B. Schmit on bass guitar and vocals, the Eagles all have an
assortment of talents that they switch off to make a fantastic
show.
Beginning with
a generic opening that all concert DVDs seem to have, in which
the fans are seen entering the amphitheater as they claim to
be the biggest fan of the band they are about to see. There
is nothing new in this presentation, as there is nothing remarkably
new about the footage of the concert. There are the same shots
of fans singing along and all of the coverage of the band members.
There is nothing remarkable about it and most of the camera
work is discreet, making this an ideal package for any Eagles
fans.
They play a remarkable
30 songs, a large number especially considering how epic some
of them seem to be. Since the songs are split onto two discs
they can be easily separated into two different viewings, which
may be smart even for the most die hard fans.
Along with the
concert there are also interviews with the band as a special
feature. With the look of the package, a fancy looking box of
gold, I expected that there would be more in the way of special
features. There is an insert with photos and a listing of the
songs and musicians, but there is no information about the event
or the band. Overall the package looks really sharp, but doesn’t
seem to have much substance to it aside from the actual concert.
The concert is shown in widescreen, making it look especially
good.
