Gilmore Girls: The Complete Fourth Season DVD Review:
Dawson’s
Creek marked the arrival of teenagers who talk like adults,
and Gilmore Girls marked the arrival of people who talk unbelievably
fast. Their wit is so fast that they don’t even need to
understand what is going on in the conversation as long as the
words come out with accurate speed. As irritating as this may
be to some viewers, and critics, it seems to have worked for
the fans enough for the season to last as long as it has. Season
four marks new changes in the character’s lives, although
many relationships are the same.
The mother
daughter team that acts like sisters or best friends are back
after a summer traveling through Europe, and they come back
to find that things have changed while they were gone. Luke
went on a cruise and he got married, but not to worry because
he will quickly get divorced. Rory also prepares for her first
year at Yale, which she finds is more difficult than she imagined
having to be away for Lorelai, her mother/sister. Back at home
Lorelai opens The Dragonfly Inn and has a romantic relationship
with her father’s younger partner. Rory has a few romantic
relationships as well, oddly with some of the same guys from
home even though she is now at college.
Season
four comes with a convenient Guide to Gilmore-isms, a booklet
filled with many of the pop culture references, a convenient
addition considering the popularity of this show must run in
a younger crowd and many of the references made by even the
youngest characters in the show are somewhat hard to follow.
This is separate from the episode guide booklet, which is filled
with description of each episode and a photo for each as well.
There is also a cast list at the front of the booklet with small
photos of each character.
Season
four has all twenty-two episodes with extra scenes on two of
the episodes. The packaging is fantastic, as was the case with
the past seasons. It is a sturdy case with a colorful green
theme which finds its place on the DVD menus as well. The special
features include the season’s most romantic moments, on-screen
factoids, and a Stars Hollow Challenge Trivia Quiz.
