Joe
Somebody DVD Review:
The Movie
Joe Scheffer
(Allen) is a mild mannered single dad who's overworked and
under appreciated at the office. But when the company bully
(Warburton) knocks him down in front of his daughter (Panettiere),
this Nobody decides to become Joe Somebody - and kick some
butt! With hilariously helpful training from a kung-foolish
martial arts pro (Belushi), Joe just might score a knockout
in this irresistible family comedy filled with "non-stop
laughs!"
Joe Somebody
has lovable movie written all over it. I found this film to
be a pleasant surprise. If your looking for solid family entertainment
and a light-hearted film then this might just be your cup
of tea. The film provides the absolute definition of a flowingly
amusing film that largely entertains but never stands out
in its own way, aside from that, Joe Somebody is certainly
an above-average film, especially for a film that embraces
so many clichés. I consider Joe Somebody a generally
watchable movie with a pretty decent cast.
The Video
Joe Somebody
appears in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 on this double-sided
DVD; the image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions. Overall,
the picture was excellent. Sharpness looked positive as a
whole.
The movie
seemed nicely crisp and distinct. I saw some jagged edges
and light edge enhancement at times, but not enough to merit
a concern. Colors worked well. The movie showed nicely rich
and lively colors, and they appeared concise. Black levels
looked well developed and thick, and shadow detail appeared
clear. Ultimately, Joe Somebody presented a solid image.
The Audio
Joe Somebody
is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. Like most comedies,
the movie featured a limited soundfield that heavily favors
the forward channels. The surrounds added effortless reinforcement.
Audio quality appeared good. Speech was natural and clear.
Effects sounded clean and precise, with no signs of distortion.
All in all, the audio worked fine for this type of film.
