Mr
Deeds DVD Review:
The Movie
When Deeds
(Sandler) inherits controlling interest in a media corporation
from his deceased uncle, he's quickly besieged by opportunists
gunning for their piece of the pie. When Babe (Ryder), a television
tabloid reporter posing as an innocent small town girl, is
sent to do an expose on Deeds, she instead feels herself falling
in love.
MR. DEEDS
is dim-witted and not getting any younger. Sandlers
movies are not meant to be taken too seriously and while some
of the material can be quite stupid, there's a good portion
that it can be somewhat pleasurable. MR. DEEDS is that type
of film, somewhat amusing, with good intentions, but not enough
to create a solid comedy. The repetitive lovable idiot
script is getting old, its a gimmick thats worked
well for the most part, but its wearing thin. Audiences
will soon grow bored of the clichéd Sandler one trick
pony act, and desert him.
The Video
MR. DEEDS
appears in an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 on this single-sided,
dual-layered DVD; the image has been enhanced for 16X9 televisions.
The DVD provided a genuine presentation.
Sharpness
was good quality. I noticed no signs of softness. Jagged edges
caused no major concerns, but there were notable signs of
edge enhancement at times. The film transfer also showed signs
of grain and some grit. Colors were rather normal with lively
and vibrant pallets. Black levels looked deep and rich, while
shadow detail was properly dense. In the end, MR. DEEDS by
and large looked superb.
The Audio
MR. DEEDS
is presented in a Dolby Digital 5.1 soundtrack. The soundfield
was very active for this type of film, which was very surprising.
The music and its score showed first-rate stereo sound. The
surrounds supplied a solid reinforcement and added some exclusive
audio. Dialogue came out natural. Effects sounded apparent
and full, with no signs of alterations. By and large, MR.
DEEDS presented enjoyable auditoria composition.

Overall
Taken
as a whole, MR. DEEDS is not a great film, but fans of Adam
Sandler films will probably find the formula script amusing.
The DVD offers positive picture and sound with some nice extras.
I didnt like MR. DEEDS enough to strongly recommend
it, but for those of you who already have your heart set on
this disc you will not be disappointed.
