My first thoughts as I began to watch Possessed, was that I
had seen the same story in many other films before, but I was
unable to remember any of them specifically because they were
all as unforgettable as Possessed is. Try as it may, there are
no new concepts within the film, and the lead actress, despite
her recent success on Desperate Housewives, is rather bad.
Ann Culver has just
regained her sight thanks to a transplant, after a terrible
car accident caused her to go blind and lose her unborn child.
Now she can see, but she often has strange visions of a young
woman being brutally attacked and murdered. Ann believes that
the visions she is seeing may be the last things that her organ
donor saw before her death, so she begins to investigate. Although
the police believe that the organ donor’s death was a
suicide, Ann thinks that this may be a mistake so she sets out
to prove otherwise. Soon Ann finds herself too close to the
truth, and in danger herself.
Nicollette Sheridan
is not completely terrible as Ann Culver, although she often
looks slightly plastic, but the moments when she is having her
visions are downright comical. Sheridan suddenly has a blind
struck look on her face, but it is more than that. It almost
seems like she is simulating someone being hypnotized. At this
point her performance is so distracting that I don’t even
care what happens in the rest of the film. Ann discovers secrets,
her life is soon in danger, and all the while she is working
out her issues with losing her child. The entire things is rather
tiring.
The DVD looks fine,
although the production values are not fantastic. Most of the
scenes are clear and audible enough to get the point across
just fine. Its entire list of features include:
