Pulp
Fiction (S.E.) DVD Review:
The Movie
Tim Roth
(Pumpkin), Amanda Plummer (Honey Bunny), Samuel L. Jackson
(Jewels), John Travolta (Vincent Vega), Ving Rhames (Marsellus
Wallace), Bruce Willis (Butch Coolidge), Eric Stoltz (Lance),
Uma Thurman (Mia Wallace), and Harvey Keitel (Winston Wolf)
Quentin
Tarantino's second film is his most daring and also the most
critically acclaimed. It also won the academy award for best
original screenplay in 1994.
Pulp Fiction is comprise of three stories that all take place
within one day. Travolta dancing again, Sam Jackson spitting
catch phrases, a mystery briefcase and, of course, the gimp.
Pulp Fiction
is a movie of revenge and loyalty all wrapped in a blanket
of pop culture. Watching Vincent and Jewels talk about cheeseburger
menu names while on their way to take out a bunch of kids
who have screwed over their boss is just disturbing (since
you will be laughing at most of that scene).
We accompany
two poorly dressed hit men on their daily routine. Butch saving
Marcellus really shows what the movie is about. Wallace planned
on killing Butch for not throwing the fight like he was supposed
to, and instead they both bond at one hell of a crazy situation.
I have
read that the best way to describe Butch saving Wallace is
"The Texas Chainsaw Massacre" crossed with "Deliverance"...
how true!
The Video
Absolutely
beautiful! It is presented in widescreen (2.35:1) and is enhanced
for 16x9 televisions. This is the way this movie was meant
to be viewed, crisp colors and not a single scratch. Just
a great transfer
over the old, bare bones disc.
The Audio
Pulp Fiction
is presented in both DTS 5.1 Digital Surround Sound and Dolby
Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. These are amazing. Turn up your
systems for Dick Dale's opening credit song Misirlou.
