Saturday Night Live: The Best of Jimmy Fallon DVD Review:

When watching the Best of Will Farrell DVD there was a particular sketch, the jeopardy sketch, in which it took me nearly the entirety to realize that French Stewart was actually Jimmy Fallon impersonating French Stewart. Fallon excels at impersonations, whether he is acting them out, or singing them out, and it is upon this talent that the “Best of” DVD succeeds.

The DVD has some of Fallon’s more popular sketches including Jimmy with Mick Jagger, Jarret’s Room, Sully and Denise, Jeopardy (with Fallon impersonating Adam Sandler), Impressions Montage, and Weekend Update Montage. This DVD is being released, as they often are, upon the recent success Fallon has found outside of Saturday Night Live. It is interesting to see how talented he was even from the beginning in the special feature audition for Saturday Night Live. Fallon has a quiet humor to him that isn’t unlike Adam Sandler, also able to take on characters that are much louder than he naturally is as well.

There usually isn’t much else to say about a DVD like this, but Lions Gate has elevated the quality of this DVD to a new level. Many of the SNL DVD’s in the past were very basic, with uninteresting menus and absolutely no special features. Instead of making Jimmy Fallon’s DVD a little bit better, Lions Gate has made it so much better it doesn’t even resemble the past attempts. The menus are interesting and interactive and there are more special features than some feature films contain. There is audio commentary by jimmy Fallon, something unheard of on most SNL DVDs. There are auditions, dress rehearsals, TV appearances, and a music video. If this is the direction that Lions Gate is taking all of their DVDs in they are going in the right direction.

This is a very specific special interest DVD, so unless a Fallon fan I can’t recommend it. If you are a fan, however, this DVD comes highly recommended, over nearly every other SNL DVD I have ever viewed. The highlight for me is the sketch in which Fallon impersonates Jerry Seinfeld sitting beside Jerry Seinfeld.
