Sorority
Boys DVD Review:
The Movie
The only
way for Dave (Watson), Adam (Rosenbaum), and Doofer (Williams)
to become one of the boys again is to become one of the girls.
In SORORITY BOYS, these guys are three playboy chauvinists
who, strapped for cash, find themselves drawn to one last,
desperate hope for free housing: one of their campus' sororities,
Delta Omicron Gamma (or D.O.G.).
With a
little makeup, a little pantyhose, and lots of "pluck,"
Dave, Adam and Doofer go undercover in the sorority house
as Daisy, Adina, and Roberta. Everything goes according to
plan. until Dave falls for Leah (Melissa Sagemiller), the
alpha D.O.G. Life's a drag as the boys see firsthand how the
other half lives - their history of treating women badly comes
back to haunt them when they walk a mile in another's (high
heeled) shoes. Meanwhile, Dave wants to tell Leah about who
he really is, but without destroying "Daisy's" relationship
with the girl of his dreams. What's a boy (pretending to be
a girl) to do?
SORORITY
BOYS is the type of film that will make you laugh out loud.
The film has the conventional seeing through the eyes
of woman plot line, but that old plot line is brought
back in a very comical way. The journey for our frat brothers
is an entertaining one. I should warn that this film will
not charm everyone, however for those of you who just want
some good foolish fun look no further, SORORITY BOYS is sure
to entertain.
The Video
SORORITY
BOYS appears in an aspect ratio of approximately 1.85:1 on
this single-sided, dual-layered DVD; the image has been enhanced
for 16X9 televisions. I thought the picture looked first-rate.
Sharpness was solid. I noticed softness on a few wide shots,
but this was not enough to cause any major concerns. No concerns
with jagged, but there were instances of light edge enhancement.
The image looked clean; I detected no signs of speckles or
grain. Colors emerged bright and lively throughout the film.
Black levels came across as profound and solid, and shadow
detail was fine. In the end, SORORITY BOYS looked relatively
fine.
The Audio
SORORITY
BOYS contains a Dolby Digital 5.1 mix. The mix sounded reasonably
clear with no worries. The sound field stayed toward the forward
channels. Music mix showed fixed stereo; surrounds backed
up the film most of the time and audio quality appeared clear
and precise for the most part. Overall, SORORITY BOYS had
an adequate audio track which remained pretty reasonable for
this type of film.
The Extras
"Boys
Will Be Girls" Behind-The-Scenes Featurette
"All The Angels" Multi-Filmmaker Points of View
Overall
Overall,
the DVD offered a generally positive picture and sound plus
a petite roster of extras. SORORITY BOYS is hilarious entertainment
at its supreme. This film works well and the DVD comes highly
recommended.
