The stranger called it at No.1!

When a Stranger Calls stole the top spot at this weekend's US boc office with $22 million. And in a weekend where there was no real big release as the Super Bowl was on, and everybody was watching the film trailers on that rather than going to the actual cinema, that's an amazing for a film that was released as quietly as I've seen a film released in a long time. The only other entry in the top 10 was Something New that managed $5 million, and will no doubt drop out of the top 10 next week.

The two big oscar hopefuls Brokeback Mountain and Walk the Line both continue to do well ahead, and there's still a month to go before we find out how well both of them do come the night itself.

Next week to make up for the lack of big releases this week, you're getting four big releases in the shape of Pink Panther, Curious George, Firewall and Final Destination 3. Unfortunately none of them sound that original or exciting, but at least it's more exciting than this week's pitiful offering.

You still prefer dick!

Yup a cheap and nasty Jim Carrey dominates the UK box office for the second week running taking its total to nearly £4 million. But it wasn't that far ahead of Spielberg's Munich which did £1.2 million.

And that was a ways ahead of Rumour Has it.. that somehow in the face of utterly negative reviews did £800,000. Again that wasn't far behind awards darling Brokeback Mountain which has now reached £6 million and that will surely increase its lead with todays Oscar nominations success.

Interest in Kate Beckinsale and her rubber catsuit appears to have waned already with the movie now dropping like a stone down to no.7 in just its second week of release.

Next week its release overload with Walk the Line , North Country, Zathura, Derailed, Grizzly Man and The Ice Harvest all out to get your admission money!
