Wednesday 10th March 2004: Alatriste Update:
Viggo Mortensen looks to have been signed up for the lead role in Alatriste. The movie will be written and directed by Augustin Diaz Yanes. Also thought to be starring are Gael Garcia Bernal and Elena Anaya. The movie will be filmed in spanish and will be filmed in Spain next January. The movie is based on the novels "Las aventuras del capitan Alatriste," written by Arturo Perez Reverte and and will follow Captain Alatriste, a Spanish soldier-cum-mercenary embroiled in the country's 16th century imperial wars.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Aloft Update:
Warner Bros. has signed up Steve Conrad to write a screenplay based on the novel by Chang-Rae Lee called Aloft. The book follows Jerry Battle, who must hold together his fractured family. He's a handsome retiree who has been going through the motions since his Korean wife drowned 25 years earlier and might have committed suicide. After entrusting the family business to his son and placing his father in an assisted living home, he's content to spend his days flying his small plane. But his plans are grounded into reality when his daughter reveals she's pregnant and has cancer.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: American Darlings Update:
New Regency have signed up Nicole Kidman and Jennifer Lopez to star in American Darlings. The movie will be produced by Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Kidman will executive produce the movie. No scriptwriter has been signed up yet but the movie will follow a white female swing band that joins forces with a group of black and Hispanic musicians at a time when women were ostracized from playing male-dominated clubs. Those sex barriers shattered soon after President Roosevelt declared war on Japan and the women suddenly played the hottest clubs and even squared off against the Count Basie orchestra at the Apollo Theater.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Daisy Scarlett: Semper Occultus Update:
Just received word that Semper Occultus has had a title change and will now be known as Daisy Scarlett: Semper Occultus. The producers are looking at developing the Daisy Scarlett character as a franchise. There should hopefully be an announcement on the casting, and as soon as we can reveal it we will!

Director Guillermo del Toro has apparently rubbished recent claims that he would be directing Daredevil 2, now isn't that a surprise?

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Deenie Update:
Walt Disney Pictures have signed up director Lawrence Blume and producer Jane Startz to develop movies based on the childrens novels by Judy Blume. First in the deal will be an adaptation of Deenie. Deenie is about a young woman's struggles to define herself independently from the dreams and expectations her parents have for her.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Fat Albert Update:
Director Joel Zwick has signed up Kenan Thompson to the cast of Fat Albert. Producing are 20th Century Fox with the movie following Fat Albert and his posse of friends, who come to life when they walk out of the cartoon and into the real world. The film will start with animation, move into live-action and end in the animated world. Also starring are Omarion of B2K fame as Reggie, Raven-Symone (That's So Raven) in the animated part of Danielle, Jermaine Williams (ER) as Mush Mouth, Jeremy Suarez (Brother Bear) in the animated role of Russell and Aaron Frazier as Weird Harold.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Hating Alison Ashley Update:
Joel has been in touch with the following info on Hating Alison Ashley "
'Hating Alison Ashley' (the new Delta Goodrem film) is "greenlit" status.
Starts shooting 5/4/04 and wraps on 21/5/04. Taking the main role is a young lady named 'Diana Glen', who stars on a hit aussie drama called "The Secret Life of Us", her very much co-star is (of course) Delta Goodrem. They are currently auditioning for the other cast members, this should be completed within the next few weeks.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Last Days Update:
Director Gus Van Sant has been signed up to helm Last Days that is being financed by HBO Films. Starring is Michael Pitt with the movie foocusing on the grunge scene of the early 90's. Pitt will be playing lead singer of a band whose trajectory resembles that of Kurt Cobain and Nirvana. Lukas Haas is in talks to play another member of that band.

Wednesday 10th March 2004: Lethal Weapon 5 Update:
Rumours are circulating today that Director Richard Donner is wanting Mel Gibson and Danny Glover to team up for a fifth Lethal Weapon. This has been rumoured a few times before, will it finally happne, and it's not as if Mel needs the money, as he is thought to be raking in a cool $100 million from Passion of the Christ's box office receipts already!

Richard has been in touch with the news that David Franzoni has been signed up to write the screenplay for Rifts.

Director Noam Murro has dropped out of directing The Ring 2 for Dreamworks. They are still ploughing ahead with the project and are planning on releasing the movie on 10th November. A replacement director hasn't been signed up yet.

John Carpenter has been talking about the reports of a possible The Thing 2 and it doesn't look like we'll be seeing one anytime soon "I have a great story for Part 2, which kicks off with the two characters left alive at the end of the first one. I’m interested in doing it. Unfortunately, I don’t think Universal is. Well, it’s interested in doing a sequel, but it’s not interested in having me direct it! You know, the studio will end up getting some commercials hotshot to do it, and that’ll be that. I don’t care. I’m certainly not going to beg. These people didn’t even get the original, despite the fact it’s my favorite movie of my own."

Wednesday 10th March 2004: The 12 Dogs of Christmas Update:
Director Kieth Merrill has been signed up to direct The 12 Dogs of Christmas that will be filmed in Maine later this year. The producers are currently looking for 84 dogs, including golden and Labrador retrievers, boxers, cocker spaniels and mongrels, to parody the English folksong, "The Twelve Days of Christmas". The movie will tell the story of a boy who uses dogs to teach people about the meaning of Christmas during the Depression era.
