Blue
Crush Movie Review:
Wake
up. Surfz up dude. Well in this case its surfz up dudet.
I am talking about the surfing drama Blue Crush.
The
whole film revolves around Anne Marie (Kate Bosworth) who
is a very talented surfer mentally scarred by a surfing
accident where she hits the reef and nearly drowns. Now
the fear of facing the big waves and experiencing a similar
incident is preventing her from making the pros.
She
has to overcome her demons in order to have a chance of
winning the Pipe Masters and improving her life for the
better in a big way. Time is running out as she only has
a week to do it in.
Anne
has to take care of her rebellious younger sister Penny
(Mika Boorem) after their mom deserted them. Living in a
shack with them are Annes two best friends, Eden (Michelle
Rodriguez) and Lena (Sanoe Lake).
After
surfing early in the mornings on the North Shore of Oahu
where the competition is to take place, Anne, Eden and Lena
barely make a living as maids in a plush hotel.
There
Anne meets her new boyfriend who just happens to be pro
quarterback Matt Tollman (Matthew Davis). Could it be a
lucky coincidence that Matt is a guest at the hotel she
works in and falls for her right away? Well if you say so.
After
Matt offers to pay Anne $150 per hour for surfing lessons,
Anne quits her job. By the way, she asked originally for
$20 an hour but Matt, being the gentleman that he is, refuses
to pay that amount and insists on paying the same rate the
hotel instructor charges. Oh yeah, there is one more reason.
Matt wants some hanky panky too and this way he has more
time to make his low key macho moves on her.
Now
all thats left for Anne to do is to try and win the
big competition. That is, if she can put herself back together
mentally and emotionally. She has to conquer her past to
become a celebrity pro surfer girl with big sponsors which
in turn would lead to her being on magazine covers and making
lots of money.
She
has to take car of her little sister and needs some serious
cash to better their lives and thats no lie.
If you
go for the story then you definitely missed the point of
this film. It is all about spectacular surf footage from
almost every conceivable angle both below the water line
and above.
Dont
forget the star of this movie Kate looks great in a bikini
and she is not the only one that does.
You
will definitely enjoy Blue Crush if you are looking for
lots of bikini clad girls, big waves and a soundtrack to
make you feel wet all over - all of which director John
Stockell excels at achieving in this film.
