Eyes
Wide Shut Movie Review:
The final film from master director
Stanley Kubrick is an eerily detached exploration of erotic
desire and obsession. An argument on fidelity with wife
Nicole Kidman sends doctor Tom Cruise wandering into the
Manhattan streets and into a variety of sexually-charged
situations, culminating in a visit to a secret, upper-class
orgy that could have dangerous consequences for Cruise and
his family. Sydney Pollack, Todd Field, Marie Richardson,
Alan Cumming also star. 159 min. Standard; Soundtracks:
English 5.1; Subtitles: English; interviews with Cruise,
Kidman and Steven Spielberg; TV spots; theatrical trailer;
scene access.
This
film took top honours in the most boring films of the year
award.
This
film was hyped on the covers of magazines by people who
had not even seen it and when they did they were very ashamed
of themselves. Most critics had the sense to pan it, but
some praised this tedious, salacious finish to an otherwise
distinguished career by Stanley Kubrick.
