How
To Lose A Guy in 10 Days Movie Review:
There
once was a magazine columnist who wondered what it would
take to chase away a man within 10 days. Inspired by her
friends, Andi Anderson (Kate Hudson) embarks on this dangerous
quest. What if Andi gets her heart involved?
Aspiring
advertising executive Benjamin Barry (Matthew McConaughey)
makes a deal with his boss that if he can get a woman to
fall in love with him before the Diamond Gala, he will get
the biggest account of his career.
With
these games in play, Benjamin and Andi begin a relationship.
It is a tug-of-war of hilarity as each tries to outwit the
other while not knowing each others goal. Will Benjamin
and Andi just forget the rules and admit they are perfect
for each other?
How
to Lose a Guy in 10 Days is a perfect romantic comedy on
paper. The jokes are there, the stars seem alert and the
basic romantic comedy cliches are evident. But what "How
to Lose a Guy" comes off as is "Sex in the City"
for the Disney-crowd. The problem with this comedy is that
it is to safe, fails to take risks and is in desperate need
of a makeover. (pardon the pun!)
When the film opened I thought I was watching the grown-up
version of "Clueless". But instead it never even
lived up to that prediction.
I cant
say that I hated this film because the performances by McConaughey
and Hudson are very entertaining and there are some really
funny jokes but it was just to standard of a comedy.
There
is always the big Gala scene where the guy looks at the
girl as she comes out in her breathtaking gown. If the hairs
on the back of your neck standup then you know it works.
When Kate Hudson comes out in her canary yellow dress, my
hair did stand up.
These
actors are very likeable and there are a couple cute moments
but maybe the film is just to girlish for me.
