Lilo
& Stitch Movie Review:
A
genetically engineered little alien monster named Stitch
(Chris Sanders III) who was programmed to destroy anything
in his path escapes to earth while on his way to a distant
prison planet in the Disney animated comedy Lilo & Stitch.
He gets
adopted by a 5 year old Hawaiian girl called Lilo (Daveigh
Chase) who is being taken care of by her older sister Nani
(Tia Carrere). Initially, both Lilo and Nani think Stitch
is a weird looking dog but soon enough they find out that
there is something definitely strange and different about
him.
In time
other aliens are sent to catch Stitch and a lot of destruction
ensues. Stitch cant stop himself from breaking things
around him.
To further
complicate things, Lilo might be taken away from her caretaker
sister by the government who is not convinced Nani is a
fit parent figure. You see since Lilos parents died
in an accident, her sister has been taking care of her.
With no father and mother, all she really has is her sister
and Stitch.
Between
Stitch trying to evade capture and Lilo trying to avoid
being put in a foster home, lots of silly slapstick comedy
ensues.
The
film is basically about a little girl and her bizarre pet
with a heart who together learn the importance of family
and love.
Lilo
and Stitch with its juvenile antics should prove somewhat
more amusing for young kids than adults. Although there
is a lot of cartoon violence nobody really gets hurt and
none of it looks like real life so most parents wont
be worried taking their kids to see it.
To those
who are Elvis fans, you will probably love the soundtrack
filled with his songs and put to plenty of use in this movie.
While
not offering anything really fresh or amazing either in
animation or comedy, Lilo and Stitch should prove more fun
for the younger set and just tolerable for the grownups.
