Rugrats
Go Wild Movie Review:
Annoying
everyone by renting a boat for their South China Sea adventure
instead of buying cruise ship tickets, Stu Pickles’s
enthusiasm is lost on the rest of the family, the De Ville’s
and the Finster’s. Not that this bothers Tommy, Chuckie,
Phil, Lil, Kimi and Susie or even Angelica, they just see
it as a new adventure. When the boat is caught in a storm
and sinks, the families escape to the life raft and are
washed ashore on a deserted island. Little do they know
that over on the other side of the island are the Thornberry
family, filming their latest documentary.
Nickelodeon’s
two most popular animated series combine to produce another
great piece of younger viewer entertainment.
Seeing
Tommy, Chuckie, Eliza Thornberry and Darwin on the big screen
together will be a thrill for any fan of the TV animated
series. Anyone who has seen a Rugrats or Wild Thornberry’s
movie before will know what to expect from this animated
tale. Songs, laughs and adventure that will keep kids entertained
and there are enough in-gags and adult references to other
movies to keep parents amused.
The
usual vocal cast do a great job. Angelica is even more attention
seeking when she meets Debbie Thornberry, Lil becomes a
vegetarian much to the disgust of her bug eating brother
Phil and Chuckie finds out what it is like to be wild when
he accidentally changes places with Donnie. Spike even gets
a voice, provided by a very enthusiastic Bruce Willis, when
he meets Eliza and Darwin.
The
movie is filmed in smell-o-vision. You receive a scratch-and-sniff
card and are promoted on screen to scratch the corresponding
area of the card to smell what the characters are smelling.
This really doesn’t work as all the fragrances on
the card smell the same, making it more of a gimmick than
an enhancement to the film.
The
Rugrats and Wild Thornberry’s movies are fun for all
the family and by combining the two, fans of the shows should
be very pleased with the results. You do see more of the
Rugrats than the Thornberry’s but there is enough
fun here to keep everyone amused.
